Goblins Species in Binaka | World Anvil

Goblins

Goblins were part of the second wave of human-based creatures made during the Third Age. There were intended to work in tight areas, especially when mechanical components were used. While bioengineering was the primary means of creating tools, mechanical components were often needed. They would interface with the bioengineered components in strange ways. Goblins were engineered to intuitively understand the mechanical aspects and, to a lesser degree, the interface between mechanical and biological.   Unfortunately, the goblins bred much faster than expected, with mothers giving birth to anywhere from 1 to 7 (usually 4, rarely 1 or 7) children after a 22 week gestation period, up to two times a year, all remarkably healthy, despite the biological basis from humans. It took some time, but a short lifespan of 20–30 years) was engineered into the species, as well as a desire to follow orders above all else. They also were designed to lack most creativity.   In the Fourth Age, the intuitive understanding of mechanical components and the interface between mechanical and biological expanded to include the interface between both and magical components. They've gained back a bit of creativity, but not much.
