Elizaveta Golitsyn: The Broken Chains of Dominion

Title: Elizaveta Golitsyn, The Defiant Ward of House Amadis Race/Gender: Human, Female Affiliations: Former Knyaginya of House Golitsyn, Ward of House Amadis Faith: Devotee of Merikka Notable Titles: The Breaker of Chains, The Silent Flame

Overview

Elizaveta Golitsyn, once Knyaginya of the cruel House Golitsyn under the brutal Khorovisk Dominion, lived a life shackled by her father Alexie’s ambitions and the oppressive doctrines of the Hextorite cult. Despite her upbringing as a warrior molded by violence and tyranny, she harbored a profound yearning for freedom and a life untainted by cruelty. Her story is one of rebellion, redemption, and sacrifice—a journey from captivity to freedom and, ultimately, to tragedy.   "Freedom is not the absence of chains—it is the defiance to cast them off, no matter the cost."

Early Life: Chains of Obedience

Born into privilege but not peace, Elizaveta was subjected to the Dominion’s rigid warrior traditions. Her father, Alexie Golitsyn, demanded unwavering loyalty and strength, forcing her to endure the ruthless practices of the Hextorite cult. Though she excelled in combat, her heart was never in it. The Dominion's brutality was made clear when her mother and younger brother perished due to her father’s negligence, and their deaths marked the first cracks in her faith.   Her resolve to escape was sealed when she witnessed the Dominion's disregard for human life—a starving woman and her child discarded without mercy. Though surrounded by tyranny, Elizaveta clung to a dream of freedom and compassion, vowing to find sanctuary beyond the borders of the Dominion.

Defection to House Amadis

When the Dominion set its sights on House Amadis, a bastion of diplomacy and resistance led by Countess Anna Amadis, Elizaveta saw her chance. She risked everything to deliver a message to Countess Anna under the guise of freeing a captive. Her plan culminated in a staged surrender on the battlefield, where she was taken prisoner by Anna's forces after a devastating clash that shattered her father's ranks.   "In his eyes, I saw what I had thought long dead: kindness in a cruel world. He reminded me that redemption begins with love and trust."   Fleeing the battle, her captors—including the young squire Beringer of the West—spirited her away to Castle Blackbriar. There, Elizaveta cast aside her house sigils and openly renounced her allegiance to the Dominion. Her gesture of defiance earned Beringer’s admiration, but her ultimate fate rested in the hands of Countess Anna, who subjected her to weeks of scrutiny.   When the countess finally judged her defection genuine, Elizaveta was offered asylum as a ward of House Amadis. For the first time in her life, she experienced a sense of belonging and warmth. Her relationship with Beringer deepened as she embraced the teachings of Merikka, seeking to purge the scars—both physical and spiritual—left by the Hextorite cult.

Tragedy and Sacrifice

Elizaveta’s newfound peace was shattered when assassins took the life of Countess Anna. The house fell into mourning, but the tragedy did not end there. As Elizaveta and Beringer returned from Anna’s funeral, agents of her father abducted her.   Dragged back to the Dominion, Elizaveta endured unspeakable torture at her father’s hands. Even as her body was broken, her defiance remained intact. Furious at her rebellion, Alexie ordered her tongue cut out and condemned her to the fighting pits as a slave.   "My name may fade, my voice silenced, but my defiance will echo. Let them know: the chains they forge will always shatter when met with unyielding will."   Months later, with the Dominion crumbling, she was forced to fight in one final, desperate battle. Chained to a spear and clad in unfamiliar armor, Elizaveta was driven into the path of House Amadis’ advancing forces. Amid the chaos, she faced a blood-soaked knight who charged at her with ferocity. Locked in a struggle for survival, she fell to his unrelenting assault.   As the light faded, Elizaveta’s thoughts turned to Beringer and the life they had dreamed of together. Her death was a cruel end, yet her defiance and courage left a legacy that would inspire House Amadis for generations.

Legacy

Elizaveta's story is one of rebellion against oppression and a relentless pursuit of freedom. Her love for Beringer and her rejection of her father’s tyranny serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Even in death, she became a symbol of hope for House Amadis, a reminder that even the darkest bonds can be broken.

History

While living with House Amadis, Elizaveta and Beringer grew close and quickly bonded over a shared love of horses and stories. The two would soon begin to properly court with Countess Anna's guidance and blessing. Elizaveta was smitten with the young Beringer early on and viewed him as the one that had rescued her from the tyranny of the east when he captured her and carried her away from the war and often thought of herself as his war bride. Beringer was supportive of her renouncing the Hextorite faith and her induction in the worship of Merikka. Following her conversion the two proposed marriage but Countess Anna counseled patience until matters with Elizaveta's mad father could be settled.   Elizaveta and Beringer's story would come to an end when the two were unknowingly pitted against each other following Elizaveta's capture and torture at her father's hands.

Relationship Reasoning

Countess Anna encouraged the two to court in hopes of founding a lasting peace between nations. A nameless orphan courting a noblewoman may seem questionable, but following the reveal of Beringer's Vogel blood it seems Anna had greater ambitions for the two.

History

The two had a uneasy but respectful relationship. While Amadis the Younger respected his mothers decision to invite Elizaveta into their home it was clear he was uncomfortable with her being so close to the family. For Elizaveta's part she worked hard to prove herself worthy of House Amadis' trust. Eventually the two would become somewhat cordial but would never bond. At the close of the Amadis-Golitsyn House War Amadis the Younger would be the one to find Beringer still impaled on Elizaveta's spear and clutching her remains.

History

After several strained first meetings the two were finally able to bond when a young Sophia fell and hurt herself while running in the halls of Castle Blackbriar. Before anyone else could reach Sophia, Elizaveta had gently scooped up the crying girl. Elizaveta was able to comfort the crying girl as Countess Anna watched. The two would soon build a strong sisterly bond with Sophia being the little sister Elizaveta always wanted. Later everyone would find out the young Sophia had thought Elizaveta was some kind of cold pale ghost or ice princess haunting her.
