Sir Beringer of the West
Sir Beringer of the West
Early Life
Raised by the noble Count and Countess Amadis, young Beringer was granted an upbringing befitting a son of high lineage. Though not their blood, he was treated with the same love, respect, and expectation as any heir of House Amadis. But his youth was shaped by the flames of war, as House Golitsyn of the Khorovisk Dominion began testing the borders of Gorundia, plunging the region into conflict. The turning point came when House Amadis, in a stroke of daring cunning, devised a plan to abduct the heiress of House Golitsyn, Elizaveta Knyaginya, to force peace. Under the strict and calculating orders of Countess Anna Amadis, Count Alistair Amadis led the operation. Young Beringer played a critical role, displaying bravery far beyond his years. Piercing enemy lines with precision and resolve, Beringer succeeded in the audacious task of stealing away Elizaveta. For a fleeting time, this bold act bore fruit, as Elizaveta renounced her ties to her father's house and became a ward of House Amadis. Rumors of scandal and whispers of a so-called "war bride" trailed them, but no accusation could shake the bond that grew between Beringer and Elizaveta."To escape the shadow of a name—is that not a kind of freedom? I never asked to be bound by blood or honor, nor did she. Perhaps in each other, we found our escape."They shared a single precious year of peace while Countess Anna worked tirelessly to secure lasting diplomacy. During this time, Beringer often reflected on the nature of his newfound connection.
Tragedy and War
But peace proved fleeting. Agents of House Golitsyn struck a devastating blow, assassinating Countess Anna Amadis, the heart and strategist of her house. The loss was a bitter wound to all, but none grieved more deeply than her family and Beringer, who saw Anna as the mother he had never known. As House Amadis prepared for vengeance, tragedy struck anew: Elizaveta was abducted and returned to her father, the cruel and unstable Alexie Golitsyn. The ensuing war was as much a fight for Gorundia’s borders as it was a personal vendetta to avenge Anna and free Elizaveta from her father’s grasp. The conflict burned with unrelenting fury, culminating in the utter ruin of House Golitsyn. As Alexie saw his power slipping away, he made one last desperate gambit: a sacrificial tide of enslaved fighters, unleashed against the knights of Amadis. The battlefield became a chaos of blood and iron, and in the heart of this maelstrom, Beringer faced a masked champion. Armed with a spear and clad in chains, the fighter struck with feral precision. Desperation and bloodlust clouded Beringer’s judgment as he lunged recklessly, taking the spear in his side to close the distance. In his frenzy, he struck his foe down with mortal blows. Only when the helmet was removed did the truth come crashing down: he had killed Elizaveta, forced into the fray by her father’s malice."I have known many wounds, but none as deep as this: to strike down the one soul who saw me not as a soldier, but as a man. No salve can heal what I have done."
Redemption and Exile
The war ended that day, but its cost left Beringer hollow. Count Amadis knighted him for his valor, though the honor felt like ash. With his body and spirit broken, Beringer spent months recovering. Yet, no rest could cleanse the stain of his deeds. Seeking redemption, he accepted a quest from Count Amadis to journey westward, far from the shattered remnants of his past. There, he embraced a life of penance, dedicating himself to protecting the frontier and serving those in need."The west is vast, untamed. Here, a man can disappear… or perhaps find what remains of himself. I do not seek glory, only purpose. For without it, what is a knight but an empty husk?"For a decade now, Sir Beringer has roamed the western frontier. In his heart, he carries the memory of Countess Anna, whose wisdom and resolve shaped him. He also carries the ghost of Elizaveta, her freedom stolen first by her father and then by his own hand. Though haunted, Beringer continues to fight—not for banners or titles, but for a fragile sense of redemption in a world that has offered him none.
Legacy of Countess Anna
Countess Anna Amadis was the architect of House Amadis' survival during its most trying times. Her legacy endures not just in the deeds of her house, but in the soul of Sir Beringer, who carries her wisdom as a torch in the dark. It is said that her final words to Beringer were a call to always seek purpose, even in the face of despair. These words echo through his quest for redemption, guiding him as surely as any blade or shield."Sir Berringer of the West—now there’s a man who can charm you while cutting you down, and you’ll still want to buy him a drink afterward. Courageous, reckless, and with a heart big enough to fit all his missteps, he’s the kind of knight who makes you believe in heroes, even when you know better. Sure, he’s a heartbreaker—his own as much as anyone else’s—but he’s loyal where it counts and braver than he has any right to be. I like the guy. Just don’t tell him I said that; he’s got enough swagger as it is."

History
While living with House Amadis, Elizaveta and Beringer grew close and quickly bonded over a shared love of horses and stories. The two would soon begin to properly court with Countess Anna's guidance and blessing. Elizaveta was smitten with the young Beringer early on and viewed him as the one that had rescued her from the tyranny of the east when he captured her and carried her away from the war and often thought of herself as his war bride. Beringer was supportive of her renouncing the Hextorite faith and her induction in the worship of Merikka. Following her conversion the two proposed marriage but Countess Anna counseled patience until matters with Elizaveta's mad father could be settled. Elizaveta and Beringer's story would come to an end when the two were unknowingly pitted against each other following Elizaveta's capture and torture at her father's hands.
Relationship Reasoning
Countess Anna encouraged the two to court in hopes of founding a lasting peace between nations. A nameless orphan courting a noblewoman may seem questionable, but following the reveal of Beringer's Vogel blood it seems Anna had greater ambitions for the two.
History
Having grown up together in House Amadis the two have maintained a healthy rivalry as brothers and often competed for their parents attention. Having served together in war the two have a deep respect for each other. In the aftermath of the war Amadis the Younger would be the one to recover Beringer from the battlefield shocked and horrified at what the two had done to each other. If Elizaveta haunts Sir Beringer's dreams, the blood soaked pair must haunt Amadis the Younger.

When Beringer's relation with Wonderful ended, Venymmara and Beringer decided to make the most of their time together.
