Fighter, lover, gambler, swine? Ragnar Varin’s true nature is anything if not a gnarled mystery. Apparently of half or full elvish decent, as evidenced by his pointy ears and fae characteristics, he still confounds those around him by not discussing, disclosing, or even hinting at his origin or familial ties. Of those that know him, only one defining attribute can all of them agree on, he is eminently likable, despite his best efforts to the contrary. This is perhaps what allows him to flitter from town to glen, gambling, charming, and winning his way into and out of people’s hearts, and pocket purses.The Bean Business
Like many throughout Greater Anghor, the slow talking Ragnar makes a good side business trading, selling, and acquiring beans in anticipation of the Lemuralia Festival celebrated throughout the lands, and one that most will pay any amount to ensure their ancestor’s ghosts are taken care of by spitting out the annual beans around their houses. Ragnar’s oldest contact, the old madam dwarf Funri Runeluck, has kept him flush with legumes for years. Too old to adventure herself, she befriended him, and every year he travels the Baron’s Path, behind The Keep, and follows her centuries old instructions to obtain a new crop of beans. He shares this bounty with her, Funri keeping the lion’s share of the profits. Funri has told the adventurers that Ragnar is indebted to her by some massive amount he may never ne able to pay back. For what, and indeed how much, remains a secret between the pair.Love & Gambling
Ragnar keeps court with Funri to help stem the tides of his gambling debts. He is also known, throughout the Anghor Dum, to be in love with Chu Hua, a resourceful but handicapped young woman whose mother, Bishra, takes care of, though herself is intertwined in a loveless marriage of convenience with a man named Jasper. This thicket of romantic entanglement has kept Ragnar in Anghor Dum much longer than in previous years, and as a result, he has bled most of his savings at the Weathertop’s Gambit dice tables at Bull’s Head Trading Post.Relationships
