Anghor Dum Settlement in Beyond Greater Anghor - A Middle Earth Adventure | World Anvil

Anghor Dum

Free People's Northernmost Settlement

Town

Anghor Dum is the smaller of the two Anghor towns. Originally a farmstead of a wealthy landowner, his manor was converted to the mead hall, and really the only building of note within the town limits. Dum is a poor village, with limited services, and even more limited supplies. Most pass through quickly and head for Anghor Thom, a two day’s ride away. The town’s main purpose is as a trading post for the farmers and hunters in the hinterland, and as such it attracts the very fringes of men, dwarves, and occasional orcs and goblins.

People

Citizens of Anghor Dum do not consider themselves poor, though they are acutely aware of Anghor Thom’s status as the capital of the greater lands. Instead, they view their lot as hardy, self determined country folk, able to live within small means, and provide the kingdom with much needed food and clothing. They tend not to trust the ‘city folk’ from Thom, although they trust the regals from The Keep even less.

Sheriff Tyvor

Older brother to Sheriff Ivor, Tyvor has a reputation as a hard and dispassionate man. He served on the Baron’s guard at the Battle of the Five Armies, losing an eye for his troubles. During the recent famine, he was heavy-handed in his methods, but Anghor Dum had less fatalities than Thom.

Government

Little in the way of government apparatus exists within Anghor Dum. Sheriff Tyvor settles most disputes, or else, personal grudges are adjudicated by the rule of the mob.

Industry & Trade

Furs, some timber, and bodyguard work dominate the few actual professions within Anghor Dum's boundaries.

Infrastructure

Very little infrastructure exists in Anghor Dum. Beyond the Mead Hall with dominates the hamlet's center, there are little amenities to speak of. Dirt and mud roads connect thatch and timber cottages and some lean-tos.
