Artificer Technology

Artificer Technology is the catch-all term applied to those devices created by craftsmen that are now part of the The Union of Artificers, also known as the Artificer's Guild. Many of these devices are re-creations of Earth That Was technology, if not in function but in form as well. The commonality is that instead of gasoline, electricity, or other such power sources, Artificer Technology uses a secret and proprietary method of harvesting, utilizing, and applying the power of Glow Rock - the common name for the self-luminescent crystals found growing near Nexi and Ley Lines. Some argue that Artificer Technology is closer to "magic" than technology, though most Artificers would not agree with this. They are very much of an engineering mindset, keeping to the fact that just because the actual underlying properties of the stones are unknown currently, their consistent and predictable output and usability standards make this a science.    Artificer Technology is still a rather rare thing. Not many Artificers exist and the Union keeps a very tight hold on its members, both as a way to protect its place in the world and control over their products but also because it has been shown time and again that Artificer Technology, in the wrong hands, proves disastrous when misused. The creation of weapons based on Artificer Technology, for example, is in most cases strictly controlled to the point of being almost forbidden. Artificers are sworn to never work directly for any established government or organization - they can sell to them and take contracts for them, but they cannot go to work as a dedicated part of that organization. This was one of the first stipulations put in place after the Mid-Ohio Resource War, a deadly and region disrupting conflict that lead to the creation of the Union.    The two most common pieces of Artificer Technology are Glow Lights and Chillers.
