House Pryde

BACK

The lineage of House Pryde stretches back to the Scorchlands, though much of their history while in those lands have been lost through the generations, as have been most of history belonging to the Gathians. For many, their history begins with their survival across the Aronod Ocean with poorly provisioned and over encumbered ships, followed by a harrowing journey through the untamed wilds until finally finding what is now known as the Golden Valley. Though all who survived the journey were deeply affected, none more so than those in House Pryde, for when they finally reached the Golden Valley, they felt an immediately sense of belonging and kinship with the land, which has only deepened as time passed. Many believe this kinship with the land is the reason why House Pryde has always exhibited an abundance of those who not only could sense Nathr, but could use it to powerful ends.

Profitable holdings, verdant land

It is believed that the main reason why House Pryde's holding was always so profitable was due in large part to some secretive method of using Nathr to their advantage. Their people seemed to do well for themselves and were mostly happy and content. Merchants tended to give them better prices, and their land always somehow fared better than most. While there may be some truth to this, it could also be attributed to good leadership and wise stewardship of their holdings.

Rebellious House

Though still a Major House, if only barely, House Pryde has a black stain on its past, for it was the driving force behind the Arcane Insurrection, attempting to topple House Cadogen and its Mad Emperor, Medyr "The Mad". While it nearly succeeded, it was stopped cold by betrayal. Owena Pryde, concerned that outside forces would take advantage of the division within the Empire and attack, worked in secret with two of her personal Mages to devise methods and tools by which the Mages of House Pryde could be defeated. Then, sneaking into Ennesburg to seek a private audience with Medyr. Medyr, in a rare moment of lucidity, agreed to the meeting. It is said that Owena threw herself on the mercy of the Emperor, with gifts of knowledge of how to fight the mages of her House. To everyone's surprise, Emperor Medyr not only showed mercy, but also a measure of grace. He promised to put such knowledge to good use, proclaiming the formation of the Order of the Iron Cross, and the training of knights capable of hunting and eliminating mages. He further promised that he would not destroy House Pryde for their rebellion, but to those fomenting such rebellion, he would put to death.

Holdings

House Pryde is the weakest of the Major Houses. Their holdings are smaller since the Arcane Insurrection, which resulted in the Emperor stripping them of many titles and holdings as punishment for their rebellion, though they are still a formidable force to be reckoned with. In addition to various hamlets in their holdings, they control Lake Bredig.
