Medyr killed all his wives but one immediately after birthing a child, convinced they would become heartless monsters after birthing a child. It is said he did this because his mother once told him "he was her heart" as an expression of love. Incidentally, his mother also fell from her balcony shortly thereafter. It was suspected Medyr pushed her, but no one could prove it. The one wife he didn't kill, Seren, said she couldn't bear to look at her infant son, Iver Cadogan, and wanted nothing to do with him, because he was born with a malformed hand. Five years later, Medyr threw himself off the top of a tower, convinced he had gained the ability to fly. They said he made no sound, but was flapping madly up until he hit the ground. Seren became the Empress and ruled nearly twenty years until she died of pneumonia, after which Iver Cadogan assumed the throne.
