Gnomes

It is generally believed that gnomes sprang into being when Shaddai had an idea that took wing and resulted in a flight of fancy. As far as anyone knows, they were created around the same time as the Elda and Iron Dwarves, which makes them - at least technically - a member of The Elder Races. The gnomes make their home in the Steamshroud Mountains in their ever-growing subterranean clockwork city Clangspire. The Steamshroud Mountains weren't always Steam-shrouded, of course. It became so as a result of gnomish invention and their obsession with steam powered…well, everything.

The Great Project

It may be a byproduct of how Gnomes came into being, but they are driven to build. They are always looking to invent the next important piece of their 'great project,' though not one gnome knows what this 'great project' is, what it will do once completed, nor why they must build it. The other Elder Races believe it is because the gnomes have a divine directive in their very makeup, almost as if the mind of Shaddai is still puzzling something out, but peripherally so. Perhaps the gnomes are nothing more than Shaddai's subconscious at work. To the gnomes, though, there is nothing that will be more grand, more wonderful, more amazing than the 'great project.' Just don't ask them what it does…

Love, Laugh, Live, and Share it with family

Unlike their far more serious Elda cousins, or their very gruff cousins the Iron Dwarves, Gnomes have a love for laughter and life. Nothing is more important to them than sharing all their love, laughter, and life with family members. Their riches, by their own estimation, is not in gold, silver, or things, but in the experience shared with one another. As such, gnome families tend to be large, and dinner is never quiet.
