Hammerock

The land of Hammerock is divided into three provinces each with a capital that then is under the national capital city of Hammerock. Bardin’s Ruin the capital being Khul Badur, Volgrim’s Beard with the provincial capital of Khel Taruhm, and Augrin’s Advance with the capital of Dolwhir.

The Hand

The religious body that rules on matters of tradition, morality, and religion as a whole. The Dwarves of Hammerock know to respect their findings as The Hand are the ones behind the exile of most of the Dwarves cast out of the city. There is an element of fear and respect to the members of The Hand as they serve a function like that of an inquisitor. They make a display of numbers but those who walk around with the symbol of the Hand are only a small portion of their hidden agents looking for corruption and anything that goes against their traditions. Despite the shady side of the Hand they do exist as the guiding hand for the Dwarves and it is by their teachings that the Dwarves maintain their treasured traditions and histories, they are the keepers of the Dwarven culture with some having grown power hungry and despotic there are those who take the role of guide more seriously.

The Rustbeard family

This a relatively new family in the political landscape of the dwarves and one that would under most circumstances be stamped out. They are made up of religious dissenters who feel the Hand has grown corrupt and stands against their ways. This would see any other dwarf thrown out of the city if not killed, except that Olgvier Rustbeard, the founder of the house is a Khelthad, one of The Warden’s chosen and by the Hand’s own traditions is effectively untouchable made worse by Olgvier’s methods the Rustbeard family has been made a ward house of the Magmaheart Surname tying it directly to the Surname of one of the Dwarves favored gods preventing them from declaring the house exile as the law would also call for the exile of the house that warded them. The Rustbeards try their best to take in the truly innocent that are wrongfully banished from Hammerock and make them part of the Rustbeard family to help the influence and power of the family and to stand against the tyranny of the Hand. This makes the house something of a criminal element to the Hand at least when behind closed doors as they cannot openly move against the house. Those who do not join the Rustbeards are either directed to the Khaldran Fortress or through help from the Black Mare Syndicate find their way to Rhyderia more often than not. A further boon to the Rustbeard family was when a Runesmith named Rossa Rustbeard joined the family a cleric of The Magistrate. She was cast out of her order when she refused to marry a noble with connections to members of her clergy and the Hand who was in her opinion of poor character. To spare the family and the church public shame she was quietly excommunicated and stripped of name and rank. She was found by Olgvier and recruited to the high priestess of the house another in a long list of slights against the Hand the Rustbeards have committed.   Yes, Olgvier’s beard is actually rusted iron.

Fauna & Flora

Dwarven Hemlock

This form of hemlock functions as normal hemlock however it has a 5-minute onset and deals the damage every 30 seconds instead of every minute. The DC for this is 25. Dwarven Hemlock has a more triangular appearance and is usually a color similar to an ale. It grows primarily in the southwest of Hammerock but can survive nearly anywhere with proper care. It is quite obviously banned in Dwarven lands and eradicated whenever possible.

History

The incident with the green dragon; Valderix’Alrdovis During the construction of the city of Hammerock, near the end of the development the Dwarves were digging deep into the earth, unknown to them they had stumbled into the territory of a green dragon who lived in the area. His kobold servants were expanding tunnels for their living space and gathering metals. This is when the two digging teams met breaking through the same wall. It has been lost to time who attacked first but it each side contends that it was the other who attacked first.   What matters is that the Dwarves responded with the full weight of their people there, pouring into the tunnels and attacking the kobolds in their homes and eventually coming face to face with the green dragon Valderix’Alrdovis who was far from pleased at the slaughter of his servants and the intrusion into his home. The dragon was able to kill off most of the early waves of dwarves who were ill-prepared for fighting a dragon in its home.   However, knowing that it was a war of attrition the dragon instructed his remaining servants to gather what they could and affix a form of saddle to him. They abandoned the lair and flew to the Tyrannus to keep informing the Tyrannus and the other dragons of the first incident of the younger races attacking a dragon. This lead directly to the attack on Hammerock.
