Unknown, "E" (a.k.a. "The Firebrand")

The "Firebrand" is a titled used by the Vistana Ezmerelda d'Avenir. Previously, her exact identity remained unknown. However, many details about her had been discovered before her actual name was revealed by Escher von Preshlow:

• The Firebrand is a Vistani woman whose name begins with an "E,"
• She is currently hiding in Fidatov Tower, a few hours west of Vallaki.

Personal history

Appearing in 734 ME, the Firebrand whipped up the ire of many of the youths of the County of Barovia — especially those of Vallaki and Barovia — and, using the Chapel of St. Indirov as a headquarters, planned an attack on Strahd von Zarovich. The attack was ultimately successful, and the Dread Lord was slain causing the Fourth Mistfall, though he was not destroyed for good.
Since Strahd's return, the Dread Lord has been hunting down and horribly dealing with his would-be killers such as Doru Donavich. As such, the Firebrand has gone into hiding, utilising their gifts for illusion. It is believed the Firebrand is still looking to destroy the Lord of Barovia, but only time will tell.
Due to Father Lucien Petrovich mouthing the name "Rudolph van Richten" whilst hearing about the Firebrand, there is suspicion the two could be one and the same. From Soryn d'Nemishcata's research, it is clear there should be no direct connection to van Richten, though it appears the figure is an individual, likely of Vistani descent, whose first name begins with an "E."
