Rudolph van Richten is an Aussenseiter Human Vampire Hunter and "Doktor of the Diabolic", whose whereabouts are unknown, having disappeared from beyond the Mists over a year ago. Due to the actions of Father Lucien Petrovich, he was suspected of being the Firebrand, though much doubt was thrown on this theory when Soryn d'Nemishcata researched the title at Strahd von Zarovich University.
Rudolph is a prolific author of several journals and codicies on hunting various monsters, with a focus on the "blight of the dreaded Spawn of Vampyr." Rudolph is infamous for his usage of the name Vampyr, which is not used or referenced by others in his field. Though accomplished and highly prestigious, Rudolph has garnered additional controversy and attention for his flashy demeanour, and his propensity of act as a "professional interesting person," often being hosted in noble courts around the Known World.
Rudolph is known to be served by an apprentice, the Vistana Ezmerelda d'Avenir. Her whereabouts are also unknown.
