Kruzz'Ious Anar'Nair Character in Ayonerra | World Anvil

Kruzz'Ious Anar'Nair

Kruzz’Ious was born into an influential Southern Divider noble family. His father, Tham'Urri, was the king’s right-hand man and guardian. He instilled a sense of responsibility and duty in young Kruzz’Ious. As Southern Divider kings lacked a personal army, it was up to Anar'Nairs to protect the ruler.

Kruzz’Ious and his elder brother Tales'Ther became King Zur’Haab’s guards. Kruzz’Ious noted the monarch’s meek nature and constant conflicts with island nobility. Inner unrest, together with brewing war with Northern Divider and Firoz, culminated in a devastating blockade of island Sipaar. The horrifying tales of the famine-struck island spread throughout the Southern Divider, further demoralising its inhabitants.

Dissatisfied with the king, Kruzz’Ious conspired with the monarch’s brother, Amok’Uudar. He took control of Tham’Urri’s army and, together with allied nobles, ignited the civil war. Tales'Ther resisted and spoke of their duty towards the king. Yet, Kruzz’Ious didn’t falter and killed his brother.

Zur’Haab’s death marked Amok’Uudar’s kinghood. Many distrusted Kruzz’Ious, calling him a traitorous kin slayer. He became commander-in-chief and wished to free Sipaar. Opportunity struck when tensions rose between Firozi Maharaja Dahaab and the Dayani Khelmtiphe Malkisaidek. Dahaab loosened his grip on Sipaar, allowing Kruzz’Ious to free the island. The victory regained people’s respect for the commander.

One-eyed Orphan

Unknown to all, Kruzz’Ious was planning a new treason. Displeased with Amok’Uudar, he wished to raise a boy to become the assertive and influential ruler Southern Divider needed. The commander went for a nameless, one-eyed Sipaari orphan. He took the boy under his wing and helped him choose the name - Au'Rhelion, after the menes’ha Messiah.

Au’Rhelion soon proved himself to be a diligent and quick-learning youngster. Kruzz'Ious shared his plan for rebellion and wished to put his apprentice on the throne. As the commander gathered allies for the coup, Dahaab struck the Southern Divider and killed Amok’Uudar.

Kruzz’Ious seized the chance. He declared Au’Rhelion to be Zur’Haab’s lost son and the rightful heir to the throne. Many were sceptical, yet the weakened kingdom couldn’t handle another war. Thus, Au’Rhelion became the king.

Kruzz’Ious gifted Au'Rhelion Amok'Uudar's golden eye, regaining the boy’s full vision.

The promising king

Au’Rhelion became the king Kruzz’Ious wished. He was deeply involved in politics, kept nobles in check, and brought needed reforms.

When news of Amok’Uudar’s living daughter spread through the Southern Divider, Kruzz’Ious found the girl. He suggested killing her, but Au’Rhelion had a different idea. The king turned Rhea'A into a gladiator as entertainment for his people and a threat to any resistance. Kruzz’Ious deemed the decision too risky, but was pleased with Au’Rhelion’s authoritative nature.

Magic

Like all current menes'has, Kruzz'Ious is linked to the same scarlet star, granting him body control magic. He can puppeteer people’s bodies as long as he keeps physical contact with them. The control ceases the second he lets go of the person.

The Shuyettan Queen

One day, Shuyettan Queen Elinaroshapshutt visited the Southern Divider as an ambassador. Kruzz’Ious was close with the Northern Taraakhi commander-in-chief Gawisamun, thus the partnership between the two nations seemed promising. But the love-struck Au’Rhelion abducted Elinore and imprisoned her in the castle.

Kruzz’Ious had noticed Au’Rhelion’s brash and uncontrollable nature, but hadn’t grasped its severity before. He was furious at the king, deeming his reckless act detrimental to the nation. Fear of completely losing influence over Au’Rhelion let Kruzz’Ious avert his eyes from the deed and not discuss it further.

Elinore’s escape a year later both relieved and concerned Kruzz’Ious. On the one hand, the king would focus more on his rulership. On the other, obsessed Au’Rhelion might wage a war with Taraakh. Thus, the commander tries to keep the king’s mind off Elinore.

Notable Relationships

Family
Kruzz’Ious viewed his father and brother’s blind dedication to the throne as short-sighted.

Tham’Urri’s disappearance after Tales'Ther's death didn’t surprise him, as Kruzz’Ious knew his father’s firm sense of pride.

Au’Rhelion
The young king exceeded Kruzz’Ious’s every expectation. He was glad to find an assertive and strong-willed ruler who became a symbol for his people.

The two trust each other. Kruzz'Ious always conceals his limp, unless alone with the king. Au'Rhelion meanwhile eats comfortably in his mentor's presence.

Au’Rhelion’s unruly nature makes Kruzz'Ious anxious. He occasionally enables the king’s brash decisions in fear of losing influence over Au’Rhelion.
Prok’Sima
Kruzz’Ious frequently discusses political matters with Queen Prok'Sima. They make sure Au’Rhelion is involved in kingdom affairs and doesn’t have time for his obsession.

Li'Laith
Kruzz'Ious has high regard for the royal scientist’s skills and knowledge. He monitors Li'Laith's progress and ensures she has the necessary equipment.

Gawisamun
The two commanders occasionally meet in secret on Kruzz’Ious’s island. They talk of notable battles and headache-inducing nobility, argue about the most powerful warriors, war-changing tactics and share new curiosities.

Before splitting ways, they warn the other not to die until their next meeting.

"Thanks to you, a new rumour sprung! They say I ate Imanhamun's heart!"

"To be fair, you are a heart stealer."

Third time's the charm! (Kruzz'Ious can't be bothered to raise another kid)

I think you have written Thek'Lias instead of Tales'Ther here: Thek'Lias resisted and spoke of their duty towards the king.   Kruzz'Ious is an interesting character. I feel as though I shouldn't like him because of all the betrayal and scheming, but I also kind of do? XD
