Golden Nighabi

The Golden Nighabi is Dayaen’s elite mage division founded by Firozi Prince Daud. Its contribution to the Grand Metal War aided Dayaen’s victory and cemented Nighabis as a formidable force against the empire’s adversaries.

Structure

The Golden Nighabi is led by a commander, who is also a spasalari. The division is split into Aseulis. Each Aseuli consists of roughly 100 Nighabi soldiers and is led by an Astavi.

Initiation and Code of Conduct

To become a member, a dunyar must put their past behind and devote oneself to the division. They receive a new name and are forbidden from sharing their identity with any non-Nighabi.
Each member dons a distinct mask decorated with Vinwardisian vines and knots. Daud chose the golden colour to mock his father, Firozi Maharaja Dahaab.

The newcomer’s link to their star is severed. Instead, all connect to the Golden Nighabi commander and share their magic. If the leader dies, all Nighabi soldiers lose the power until a new commander is appointed. The leader later connects to a new star and spreads its magic to others.

No Nighabi can go back to regular life. Desertion is punished with death. Aseuli members frequently share their histories with each other, many forming lifelong bonds with fellow Nighabi mages. But soldiers from different Aseulis are forbidden from sharing their identities.

Armour and Weaponry

Golden Nighabi soldiers wear chain mail suit with cuirass covering the torso. Many put on thinner plates on limbs and small pauldrons for additional protection. The gilded armour is adorned with Vinwardisian ornaments. The jacket underneath is blue, golden and green, referencing Dayani Khelmtsiphe Malkisaidek’s coat of arms.

The Golden Nighabi employs a variety of weaponry depending on the need, battalion and individual soldier: swords, daggers, maces, war hammers, and polearms such as halberds, poleaxes, and spears. Bows and crossbows are used for long-range combat.

Djovara

Djovara is the current Nighabi commander and Malkisaidek’s spasalari. She wields powerful telekinesis, able to move people and items at will.
The commander is not very talkative towards non-Nighabis, focusing on discussing orders and necessary tasks instead of casual chatter.

Djovara usually wears a mask together with a spiked helmet during political meetings. She discards the spike in battles, presenting as a regular Nighabi soldier.

Current Location and Public Reception

Following the Grand Metal War, Malkisaidek deployed most Nighabis in Firoz, Badakhsh, Lazhvurd, Iyasp and Zurmukh. The vast majority are in Firoz, guarding its de facto ruler Lavran Lavvaley and opposing frequent rebellions.

Many view Nighabis as a singular, terrifying unit devoid of individuality or self. Their presence often instils anxiety in regular folk.

If they connect with the commander and share their stories, can they still make decisions on their own or will that make them conformist? It reminds me a bit of the Borg, but it's a very interesting organization.

They aren't hive-like. Connection with the commander is purely to share the magic. Each Nighabi is still an individual and fights on their own. Their actions depend on the orders from the commander.   A Nighabi can ask questions and offer advice to the commander. But the commander always has the last say.
