Northern Forest

The Northern Forest is located - as its name suggests - in the north of Ayndrinor. It is technically comprised of two separate forests that never meet, one on each side of the Backbone Spires. The western portion is bordered on the south by the Sinsear Mountains and on the west by the plains of Nordtvein. The eastern portion is nestled between the Backbone Spires and the Strait of Dalkaria and is bordered on the south by the Tallstag River.
The forest is home to many tiny villages - some year-round and others are wintry respites for the denizens of the frozen plains. The western portion also houses two of the northern fort-towns of Oestbernia, which serve to protect that nation from the raiding peoples of the tundra. Because the forest is surrounded by and partially overlaps mountainous areas, there are many caves and mountain tunnels that are inhabited by various nomadic peoples at different times of the year. Specifically, the people of Camp Frostbite head south into the forest and mountains every autumn before the winter snowfalls bury their city; they sometimes seek out these mountain tunnels to "hibernate" and wait for the thaws. The eastern forest is thicker and tends to prevent larger hordes from waging war on the forest's southern neighbor of the Everyn Federation.
