Dallion Falanor Character in Axora | World Anvil

Dallion Falanor

Overview

Dallion Falanor was the individual who led the initial expedition that discovered what would become Mysandros. He is credited as being the founder of Ialos, now the capital city of Maressea . Whilst it is unknown whether the Faes'Forai existed in his time, he has become the figurehead for all the High Elves that desire to venture beyond the walls of Irallien into the wider world beyond.

Early Life

Not much is known about Dallion's childhood, since he was born before the Purge of Knowledge that marks the start of the Age of Discovery. The only written notes of that time come his own diaries and musings, which paint a picture of a young elf who felt trapped by duty and station. Like almost all High Elves, he was born and grew up in Irallien. It is presumed, since was of age to serve in the latter years of the preceding age, the Age of Darkness, he was involved in the nationwide conflicts that are surmised to have occurred then.

Expedition Leader

The Elven world at the dawn of the Age of Discovery was one that was heavily split, or at least the High Elven world was. The majority of the High Elves turned inward and bolstered their insular society. The Wood Elves in the forests beyond, however, were more than willing to seek out lands beyond the shores of Aldenia. A small band of High Elves, including Dallion, broke from their tradition and joined the expeditions. Dallion ended up as the leader of the first expedition that headed eastwards. Why or how he ended up in charge, is unknown, though external reports detail him as an exceptional tracker and scout, lending some insight perhaps to his roles prior to the Age of Discovery also.   Dallion sailed east, with a team of at least three dozen others, split almost equally between Elves and Humans. Whilst landfall was made on the southwestern tip of Mysandros, it was Dallion that was adamant that settlement should be made further down the southern coast. He describes being 'drawn' to the location to where Ialos was founded, and still resides.

The First Panarchon

Whilst the role of Panarchon was not brought in until much later, at least in its democratic state, Dallion Falanor is viewed as the de facto first Panarchon of Maressea due his role in being the first steward of the people on this new frontier. Whilst a band of humans continued further east to eventually found Hantau, and the Dwarves passed through into the northeast into what became Gonde, Falanor remained in Ialos. The boundaries were formed, other settlements were created and Maressea slowly became populated, and prospered under his stewardship.   Dallion married one of his fellow initial travelling companions, Amrylla, and had three children.

Legacy

The Elven city of Falerond, is named so in his honour, its name being a portmanteau of his name and 'erond' ('duty', in Elven). The reason behind settling where he did remains a mystery debated by scholars. Ialos' location is not optimal in terms of accessibility or defensibility. As a port, it would have made more sense to have settle the southwestern tip, for example.   The Falanor bloodline remained as Maressea's leader until, his great-grandson, Dalamis, ironically decided the leader life wasn't for him decreed the leader of Maressea should be elected and officially created the Panarchon role and system still used today.
