Panarchon
Overview
The Panarchon is the leader of Maressean society. They rank ahead of the Prosons. Whilst a Proson is dedicated to a particular facet and connected to a relevant god (i.e. The Proson ton Tidor is equilavent to Minister of Ships - Tidor being the Maressean spelling of the God of Water, Tidur), the Panarkon sits above them and doesn't have a specific association. In Maressean culture, in many organisations, the Archos is the leader. The Maressean language is derived largely from Elven and the Old Tongue, as the original settling of Ialos, and Maressea as a whole, at the dawn of the Age of Exploration had a heavy Elven contingent in their ranks. 'Panarchon' then, is derived from the same basis, essentially meaning Leader of All.Role & Duties
Maressea stretches from the western coast of Mysandros to the Nargunar mountains, which effectively form the barrier between it and the Kingdom of Gonde in the Northeast. In the Southeast, the border with Hantau is a roughly vertical line from the most western of the Spines of Nulbarak. All this land is under the care and stewardship of the Maressean government, of which the Panarchon is the head. The vassal states of Myridon, off the western coast, and Nyamene to the southwest (which is technically closer to Hantau than Maressea) are also under the Panarchon's care, but those states' duties are largely left to a proxy government within their own borders. The Villeona Archipelago is the only external landmass directly within the Panarchon's responsibilities. That too, however, has been left under the care of a Proson situated on Pira, it's major settlement, as has effectively devolved into a pirate state, albeit a relatively low violence version. Both the positions of the governmental Prosons and the Panarchon are achieved via an electoral vote every four years. (Emissary Prosons, such as the Proson ton Pira, are selected by the Proson). There is no term limit, however, and typically, if they are viewed as doing a respectable job, Panarchons end up being re-elected until they decide to not run, or if they die in office. In such cases, a snap election is called for that position only. The day-to-day handling of the affairs of state is largely handled by the Prosons, but all measures as passed through the Panarchon for approval. The real main duty for the Panarchon is to be the face of the nation, and whilst the details of trade deals are done through the Proson ton Kraphos, it is the Panarchon that is responsible in keeping the international relations pleasant.Appearance
The Panarchon is the representative of Maressea, and as such, their official dress follows suit with the colours of Maressea: white, gold and purple. The official robe is white, with golden trim and purple embellishments.
