Owlin

Our interview with this Ano figure has given us plenty of information about himself and a little bit about the Eternals. Professor Loren was escatic to get to interview someone with his character. But that describes an Owlin perfectly: always thirsting for knowledge from any source they can get their hands on.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Like Aarakocra and Kenku, Owlin appear to be both small and medium sized birds with wings on their backs. However, they are connected more to owls due to their bloodline, giving them the appearance of one as well. Thanks to this and their stature, they are more nimble as well, able to sneak easier than most.

Genetics and Reproduction

Like the other two birdfolk, Owlin reproduce through eggs when they have children with other Owlin, Aarakocra, or Kenku. However, children they have with non-birdfolk are usually live births.

Growth Rate & Stages

Owlin reach adulthood by their 30s, living for up to 300 years in the right conditions. However, they are not considered mentally mature until they are in their 50s.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to many Owlin having a connection to magic, they have the ability to detect magic once a day. Additionally, thanks to their fey blood, they can seen in the dark in shades of grey but their owl blood enhances this, allowing them to see farther than normal but not as far as those who grew up in the Underoads.

Civilization and Culture

History

Owlin have a distant relationship to the giant owls of Faenum. While the Fey may have crafted them, it is clear that is where the influence ends. Owlin were born with an inquisitive nature, wanting to learn as much as they could. This made them a natural fit with the Harengon who explored as much as they could on Faenum and beyond. Owlin scholars noted as much as they could and even went on expeditions themselves to the other moons and even Avestra itself.

That's not to say they turned a blind eye to their home. They watched as numerous interesting events happened on both land and sky. They documented the exile of the Lunari and Alomri, the flight of the Harengon and Elves, and the resulting effect it had on the Fey. Half the Owlin went to Avestra with their Fey cousins, wanting to make sure they were well and explore Avestra as well.

They would continue to investigate and explore the natural world. Until the Gith arrived and gave their warning about the Elders. The Owlin tried to convince others to listen, even as the Harengon returned and gave the same warnings. In the end, it didn't matter as the Elders and their forces attacked Avestra. The Owlin did their best to help but it seemed like all hope was lost before the arrival of the Eternals.

With peace returned for the time being, that leaves the Owlin with some many more questions to answer now that the greater cosmos is open to them. Across the land, Owlin search for as much information as they can, founding academies as a place to keep their research safe. And while there are many questions to be answered, the biggest one is related to the planet they see in the day and night sky: Aeternum and the Eternals that call it home.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Owlin get along well with both birdfolk and Feyfolk alike. Aarakocra and Kenku find them a bit strange due to their constant thirst for knowledge but they see them as their best chance to break the curse on the Kenku and potentially discover the depths of Celes's madness. Their Fey cousins also like having them around as they are good companions and neighbors alike.

The Tykriels and the Owlin have a bit of a friendly rivalry as both are a highly intelligent group, both hoping to learn the secrets of the world they reside in. And whiel some Tykriels are jealous of their flight, they choose to not let it affect them as they work together to solve the mysteries of Avestra.
