Fey

The Fey are far closer than people think in Avestra. Laughter in the forest. A snapping of a tree branch. A pile of leaves carefully raked suddenly landed in and scattered across an area. Or even creatures that will make deals that are quick to ruin your life or even disrupting your dreams. That is the fickle nature of the Fey and why they are seen as the Tricksters of Avestra.

Hailing from Faenum, named after them of course, they appear in many different forms and shapes. There are those who are sapient and those that are simply beasts. They claim to be the progenitors of races such as the Alomri, Elves, and Lunari, but show little concern for their created species. At least verbally. For the Fey are wearers of many masks and it is far too easy to be tricked by their honeyed words. There are good Fey and they do have quite a lot of power but that doesn't mean they'll step in to help those who need it most unless they can get something out of it.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fey appear in many forms such as sprites, pixies, fairies, and more. They are too numerous to name but the sapient ones know how to hide their form amongst any race, appearing as fair or as hideous as they wish.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Fey were first born of Faenum after the Eternals disappeared from the world. Many wonder what Eternal created them as they can vary on any cosmic force/alignment. Good, Evil, it matters little to the Fey and their chaotic ways. Like their creators, the sapient Fey soon mastered some measure of creation supposedly. While they left the Elementals to their games and even indulged them from time to time, some of those lucky became powerful lords in what soon came to be known as the Fey Courts. These lords needed subjects beyond their own Fey and supposedly created three races: Alomri, Elves, and Lunari. Servants, Subjects, and Warriors in that exact order.

Yet the Alomri were not happy to play in that role. And soon they rebelled against their masters. Many Fey saw it as a game at first and a way for their servants to let off steam about any pathetic grievances they might have. But the more the Fey Lords lost, the angrier they got. And that anger turned to jealousy as they were made fun of. When the Alomri caused the Great Cracking, the Fey Lords were enraged. Their wrath was severe against those that stood against them, whether it be Alomri or Lunari. Both were thrown out of Faenum, left to die in the Astra. It didn't amuse them when they found a home in Avestra instead.

They even tried to stop the Elves from fleeing but a large chunk of them made an exodus into Avestra as well while the Fey were kept out by the Cosmic Barrier. Without their creations, they were prey for the Elders. If not for races such as the Aarakocra and Elementals, Faenum would've seen its demise. However even with that and the Eternals, most of the Fey have not been humbled. Some are still angry, still arrogant, and still the same tricksters that try to manipulate for their own ends. Some begin to wonder if the Fey are truly able to change despite supposedly being fickle and chaotic. They spread across Avestra and Faenum alike, crafting deals for their own ends. However, there are those Fey who choose to stand up for others as defenders of nature and villages alike. Showing that there might be hope for the Fey after all.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Many Fey still despise the Alomri for the rebellion and wish to stop them from freeing their beloved leader, Moira. There are those amongst the Fey who understand their grievances and even wish to help them but are held back until they can find a way to find the best outcome for themselves and their subjects alike.

The Elves, while children of the Fey, don't feel a connection to them unless they still live in Faenum. As such, Fey see them as another group they can make deals with or trick in their own ways. But some part of the Fey still see them as their children that need protecting and may even watch over them and their half-elven brethren.

The Fey never forgave themselves for throwing away the Lunari. Fey Lords try constantly to bring them back home but not many are willing. The few that do are invaluable and the Fey are trying their absolute best to keep them happy.
