Walren (Wall-ren)

Walren are hulking creature with fur covering large portions of their bodies that typically stand between 8-12 feet tall. They were bioengineered to be the perfect killing machine, enlarged adrenaline production glands and thick solid bones without gaps making then highly efficient at their violent purpose. Additionally, to fuel the ever-churning Walren war machine, Walren reproduce exceptionally quickly and live quite a long time unless killed, which happens to be quite often. While there is evidence of older races and civilizations in Avendora, the Walren are quite possibly the oldest major race still around along with the Kadar. Due to their sheer enormity of age the Walren Empire has accumulated, they have built up billions upon billions of soldiers as well as colossal ships that make other vessels appear as minnows beside a whale.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Walren are bipedal humanoids, standing upright at an average of 10 to 12 feet. Their bones are solid and mostly form in sheets over their vital organs, sacrificing mobility for much added protection. They also posses 2 hearts and only require 1 to function. Several more organs in Walren bodies have backups as well. In addition, however they only have the minimum amount of organs to survive. usually brown coats of fur help insulate them from the cold, allowing them to survive in temperatures far below zero. This fur typically surrounds their entire head aside from the face, with sideburns often forming down their cheeks. Fur also grows across their broad shoulders and goes halfway down their backs and arms, resuming again at the waste and covering their legs and the tops of their feet as well as hands.

There is little genetic variance within the Walren race, each and every feature of their biology devoted to killing. Additionally, their reproductive cycles are much quicker than most races other than Kadar, allowing them to spread prolifically.

Due to their lives extending up to a thousand years, Walren also reach adulthood later than humans, usually at around 50 years.

Walren can survive in most habitats, but they prefer more temperate climates and their threshold for cold is far greater than that for heat. additionally they breath almost pure Nitrogen.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Walren consume mostly meat and drinking the blood of other living things has no affect on them, in fact it is quite nutritious for them. They can also subsist off of almost any other edible substance they consume in more desperate circumstances.

Biological Cycle

Because of their constant adrenaline pumping and aggression hormones raging urging every Walren to kill, once a year each and every Walren will experience a phenomenon known as the Day of Blood when they become extremely violent and sweat blood from every pore of their body. This is recognized as a national holiday and no crimes committed in this time can be prosecuted as they are out of their control.

The Walren worship their god of war, believing every death, weather that by killing or dying, brings much glory to him. This means the Walren are almost always at war on some level. To do otherwise would be blasphemy. Many Walren believe their Emperor Neo to be this deity, due to his tremendous stature and battle prowess as well as the fact that he has been alive longer than any other known being.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Walren will kill anything the breathes, but the have a special loathing for the Kadar, even going so far as to fervently believe they were created for the sole purpose of purging them from existence.

Most Walren are incredibly muscular and have very Dense muscle with very little fat... however in colder inviroments the walren brain will automatically keep as much fat as it can from the food that the walren consume and will create a Dense layer of blubber over the walrens flesh.
