Spacial Fold Drive (A.k.a "Tension Drive")
An SFD is an incredibly fast method of interstellar travel that allows a ship with one drive to be pulled through folded pieces of space at speeds of around 1 light-year per hour... this allows for swift travel between systems or across the galaxy. several variations of this technology exist such as the Saurian empire "fold gate"... these work in a similar manor to the SFD but due to more efficient power sources the saurians only need to create one fold, pulling from both sides at once allowing for near instant travel... this however requires a much larger power source than can fit on a ship so the SFD makes many small folds that take significantly less power but negates the need for pre built and positioned gates.
Utility
SFDs use beacons or gravitational signals to grab a far off piece of the spacial plane and compress it into an accordion like state and causes tension to build up from the space time continuum trying to realign itself. then a small incision just the size of the ship or Fleet is created a that the ship or Fleet can be pulled through by the tension.
Social Impact
the SFD has revolutionized interstellar travel allowing for thousand light year travel in a realistic timerame... a cross galaxy trek that would normally take millions of years with conventional methods can now be achieved in just over nine years.

SFDs are quite common on almost every type of ship used by almost every nation in some form or another.
