Minotaur Dictatorship (Min-oh-tar)

Overview: The Minotaur race started as an experiment by the Kau. They spliced the DNA of captured humans with their own, creating a hulking bipedal beast with far less intelligence than either parent race. Disappointed, the Kau left the few remainders to die on Earth. This was somewhere in the ancient times of human civilization, and the sight of these creatures began many myths and legends about these “Minotaur” creatures. They Mintotaurs then began to reproduce at an alarming rate, not dying out as the Kau had expected but instead growing stronger. During this time earth became a part of Kadar controlled space and when they saw what was happening on earth they removed the Minotaurs from the planet and returned them to the Kau (they were obligated to do this be some xeno non-interference laws passed in the galactic senate). The Minotaurs then proceeded the stage an uprising after being enslaved by the Kau, reproducing prolifically and eventually overthrowing the Kau all together. They slaughtered many Kau brutally but still use many as slaves to this day. Minotaur technology is spotty at best, their ships often being comprised of scraps and metal welded and bolted together. While looking quite hazardous, their inventions are surprisingly viable and have lead to the deaths of many. Recently, the Saurian empire saw the havoc they were causing to the galactic east and proceeded to sneak into their territory and plant bombs and the cores of many of their major planets, threatening to detonate them if the Minotaur Dictatorship did not agree to become their vassal and abide by their new rules. The dictator was forced to comply and after many years most have grown to appreciate the protection the Saurian empire provides, but the bombs still attached to their planets’ cores are a constant reminder of their forced compliance.
Technology: Much of the basic technology used by the Minotaur Dictatorship was originally invented by the Kau. Due to the Kau being a peaceful and generally docile race however, the Minotaurs have had to engineer most of their weaponry themselves. Long ago the Kau had discovered a method of growing special bio-synthetic crystals to use as a power source. They guarded this secret jealously and the Minotaurs continue to do so to this day, though the Saurians have been able to secure the technology (it has been used in moderation, though Saurian energy creation is generally much more advanced). The Minotaurs have created a system of powering their plasma firearms that converts crystals fed directly into the gun into energy blasts. They also feed these crystals into their ships engines and hyper drives. Other than that, Minotaur technology is quite varied. Even ships of the same class will often look quite different due to their ramshackle style of engineering, bolting and welding armor plates all over to add as much protection as they can.
Culture
The Minotaur culture is that of a warrior, the status of each clan decided by martial prowess. The culture can be very brutal at times, and deadly for non-Minotaurs, despite the best efforts of the Saurians to rein in the more destructive behavior. In an attempt to curtail the commonplace violence that turned out to be surprisingly effective, the Saurian government founded colosseum arenas in many major towns and cities on every Minotaur world where people can choose to fight for status, money, and fame. This has become extremely popular throughout the Minotaur Dictatorship and thousands if not millions have lined up to fight in the arena, with the victors gaining celebrity status and accruing much money and power.
