Minotaur Species in Avendora | World Anvil

Minotaur (Min-oh-tar)

Minotaurs were created by the Kau using a combination of Kau DNA and that of humans captured from earth. The genetics did not mix as expected and instead of a new, smarter sub race of Kau being created, they retained their intelligence level while becoming more brutal and violent. In addition to these mental changes, their muscular structure was also altered, making them much stronger than either humans or Kau.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Minotaurs stand on two humanoid (albeit thicker and stalkier) legs ending in typically black hoofs, hunched shoulders sprouting heavily muscled arms. Their long, broad heads have two black or brown eyes and the males also possess two sharp horns of greatly varying length and shape on either side of their heads. The horns can be straight, slightly curved, or totally curled, as well as varying in color and between totally smooth and ridged. Their extended faces end in a snout above a jaw filled with blunt teeth that excel at crushing food into a digestible pulp. Lastly, nearly their entire bodies are covered in short, coarse hair that provides some insulation and protection from harsher weather environments.

Genetics and Reproduction

Due to a hormonal and chemical reaction, the fewer Minotaurs there are in a given area, the more their reproductive drive increases. This has allowed the Minotaur race to quickly spread across the state much quicker than many races before them, though piggybacking of stolen Kau tech and ships was assuredly a great additional help.

Ecology and Habitats

Minotaurs can survive in temperatures both a good bit warmer and a good bit colder than a Human would be able to, partially due to their increased biological endurance and tolerance and partially because of their hairy coats.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Interestingly, despite their brutal nature, Minotaurs inherited the dietary needs of the Kau, mostly preferring plant based food. Their blunt crushing teeth lend themselves to this diet as well. Though Minotaurs occasionally eat meat and fruits, they have consistently demonstrated an aversion to these items in addition to adverse stomach reactions upon consumption.

Average Intelligence

87 IQ

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Minotaur vision excels at perceiving minute movement in a very wide range of view. This strength is also a great weakness, as their detail oriented vision is greatly lacking. They also possess a heightened sense of smell which allows them to be quite proficient in tracking.
