Avalon Valley

The land now known as Avalon used to be the Utah and Heber Valleys of Utah. After the Great Cataclysm most people were cut from the outside world. Unable to communicate they had banded together with the fantasy races to survive. With the help of Gods, Goddess, and Fay they were able to create a somewhat stable environment. How ever during the Age of the Godless the two valleys were forever changed. Mountains and rivers were moved, the valley itself grew larger with disastrous earthquakes. Posiden even created an inland sea that reached parts of what used to California, Nevada, and Mexico. Avalon sits at the sea's North Eastern point.

Geography

Much of the old buildings of the Ancient Era were lost during the Age of the Godless. Ancient buildings that did survive did so mostly due to magic and can be found in major cities.

While surrounded by mountains to the North, East, and South, most of Avalon is a plain sweeping out from the mountains to the Adveni Sea in the west. The Cliffs of Shadow run along the Northern Border and separate Avalon from the Valley of Shadow which is ruled by the infamous Vampire Lords and werewolf clans. Along the East the Dwarven inhabited Dragon Peaks and Wasatch mountains act as the boundary between Avalon and Suna Garte the land of the High Elves. In the South the Salem River marks the southern most edge of Avalon as well as the Southern most boundary of the nation Baldur. On the other end of the river lie the lands of the nomadic centaurs.

There are two other major rivers in Avalon. The Golden River marks the Northern boundaries of both Baldur and Prussia and curves north up to the Wasatch mountains. It gained its name from the shipments of gold brought down it by Dwarven merchants from Jideon.

The Provo River up north and runs Lake Sharza in the Suna Garte and winds its way South West to the Adveni Sea.

Small woods and forest groves have sprouted around the Sea shore and mountains.

In Baldur the Gast Field Swamp runs along the southern edge of the Golden River up to the Scarlet Mountains.

Fauna & Flora

Many of the natural Fauna of Utah have survived and found new homes. Deer are most commonly seen in the mountains during the summer and in the lower plains during the winter. Bears and Mountain Lions stay on the mountain slopes were they hide from dinosaurs living in the plains below. Dragons build their nests on mountain peaks and only wolves have been seen brave enough to try and attack young dragons. Some wolf packs have been seen in the lower plains but most often hug the mountain sides. Most raptors stay in forests where they can move somewhat unseen. Larger dinosaurs, especially T-rex's, live near the Sea side. Here they have plenty of fresh water and fish or plants to feed on with less snow to worry about. In the lower plains live horses and other animals the races have domesticated. Herds of Triceratops have also been known to traverse the lower plains.

In the Sea live many fish created by Posiden. Who turned many species normally associated with salt water into fresh water creatures. The sea was created to be a home of the many Mermaids or Merfolk created by the Aryans and are its principle inhabitants. Many kinds of fish from Tuna and Sword fish to Trout and Salmon have been found. Some sharks, octopuses have been found as well. Much of the bottom has large beds of coral providing shelter for many smaller types of fish and crustaceans. Crabs have also been found in abundance are common food of Mer.

As for Flora, many kinds of grasses grow in the plains as well wild wheat and barley. All trees from before the Great Cataclysm have survived and been joined by strange new ones. These new trees, called Heartwood trees, have a form of bio luminescence that blinds creatures looking into their groves and clumps but doesn't seem to blind those inside. Often these trees grow in clumps of trees all connected to a central root system.

Natural Resources

Avalon is filled with many natural resources. In the mountains metal ores abound bringing much wealth to Dwarven city states. Gemstones are somewhat harder to find and mostly come from the Kennicot Mine in the Shadow Valley or the Dragon Peak Mountains in the North East.

Wood and other building supplies are easily gained from the mountain forests and groves growing in the lower plains. Most clay and bricks come from cities and towns near Dwarven holds as their inhabitants buy the raw materials from Dwarves who wish to get rid of their tunneling waste. Some quarries of marble and granite have been found near the Scarlet Mountains on the borders of Baldur and Prussia.

In the lower plains many crops are easily grown, some in actual farms and others in the wild. The most common grain grown is wheat, barley, and hops. Potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, peppers, carrots are the most common vegetables grown. While Apples, melons, Cherries, Plumbs and berries are the most common fruits.

With many different species within hunting range leather, meat, and scrimshaw products are easily found. Whale oil is imported from the sea by the Merfolk who hold a near monopoly on whaling rights in the waters around Avalon.
