Drakon

Stone ruins lay caked in snow and ice as you travel up a wide, cobblestone road. You pass by carriages coming toward you and traveling away. Following where one of the carriages travel to with your eye, you spot several stone buildings with beautiful designs and accents beyond a few smaller wooden buildings. As you travel closer, through the falling snow, you see a tall, stone wall and taller buildings with even more intricate designs beyond it. Stained glass windows adorn the buildings past the wall with beautiful designs. Each step you take you see even more detail in each building, but one stands out amongst the others. A grand cathedral past the wall, far beyond it sitting on a lone mountain. Despite the height of the stone barrier, you can see the city resting on cliffs leading up to the cathedral towering above all others. Spires and stone dragon figures dot the cathedral as a stained glass window depicting the platinum dragon Bahamut flying over the sun watching down on the lives of people lays front and center. Just as it shows Bahamut watching over the people in the art of the stained glass, so does it seem that he is watching over the entire city from the mountain. You take your first steps past the wooden buildings on the outskirts, hearing the sounds of cattle and goats, seeing the furry creatures as they are tended to by the farmers that make their home just outside of the city. Going deeper, you smell stews and fish and hear laughter as people enjoy the food and company within a nearby tavern. A smaller wall is sat past the tavern with a gate guarded by two men in blue and white tabards over chainmail blocking entrance to the city proper. Despite the frigid temperature, you feel a slight warmth from the people around you. Welcome to Drakon.   A city with a population of 13.2k. This city has been completely restored from the ancient dragonborn kingdom that was primarily lost due to The Siege of Stars. Many of the buildings still laid in tact from the ancient times and it seems that many other civilizations made their home here as evident from cultural artifacts left behind in the ruins. It is not the capital of Sermaleran, but many people see it as such for being such a pinnacle of culture. Many have spoken of a secret city below Drakon that can only be reached through the ancient catacombs hidden in the grand cathedral. The main guild hall for The Knights of Blue are located here and the grand cathedral worships Bahamut. Beautiful lights in the sky can be seen on most nights over Drakon as snow falls almost every day year-round and the beautiful architecture and stained-glass windows of religious symbols calls out to the beauty in the world. Sir Pavel Lyris looks after Drakon and heads The Knights of Blue, taking direct orders from King Mikhail when his divine order is needed in combat.

The Knights of Blue act as the guards here as they protect the town and the territory around the city. All city actions are first passed through Sir Pavel Lyris before being decided upon. Pavel acts as the judge, jury, and executioner of Drakon as his Knights of Blue are his enforcement of the laws of Sermaleran. Pavel's judgement has been trusted by the kings of Sermaleran for several years as they trust him with the correct judgement of all criminals in the kingdom.

Defences

A stone wall surrounds the rebuilt portion of the heart of the city as the grand cathedral across the river atop the lone mountain acts as the castle and head quarters to the Knights of Blue. Outside of the walls are smaller buildings rebuilt from the ruins of Drakon with yet another stone wall surrounding it. Ruined stone buildings of dragonborn descent and dilapidated architecture from ancient times stand outside of the outer city walls as wooden buildings are built up nearby.

Industry & Trade

The city primarily earns money by way of culture and the travelers who come from afar to witness it. Stonework and glasswork is a popular craft for trade here. Tithes are collected as well as taxes to run the city and fuel its continued reconstruction. Right past The Twinkling Scale on the outskirts of the Market district is a wall that leads into the city proper where a toll station is set. The toll to enter the city is 1 silver.

Infrastructure

The Grand Cathedral of Bahamut and Order of the Knights of Blue is located on a lower portion of a lone mountain near The White River. Parts of the mountain have been carved out to make room for such a large building, but a flat portion of the mountain made the groundwork for where the cathedral stands today. A grand stone road leads up from the south western gate to the cathedral and branches off to the byways and alleys of the rest of the city.

Districts

To the north east is the Blue district, where the cathedral sits and the stately buildings are. The highborn also live here in grand mansions along the cliff edge. To the north west is the Hearth district, where many of the populace of Drakon live. To the south south east is the Hall district, where guilds and guard barracks are located along the outer wall of the Blue district. To the south west is the Market district where several general stores, smithies, fletchers, taverns, inns, jewelers, emporiums, butchers, bakers, and tailors are. To the west past the Market district is the Seedling district where the farms and ranches are located on the outskirts of the city.

Guilds and Factions

The Knights of Blue protect this city as well as oversee the reconstruction of its beauty. The Drakon Art Society are known for their glass works above all else, but they also produce paintings and stone work as well as hold ice sculpting competitions year round. Fynn Academy is a bardic college teaching literature and music, founded by Fynn Klein, the gnomish bard, back in 432 BR. Aquilo's Wish is a guild hall that prides itself on the understanding of magic, as its students train in conjuration.

History

Drakon is believed to be the capital of all dragonborn civilization before the world was burnt away due to the siege of stars. Despite this cataclysmic event, the grand cathedral of Drakon and the surrounding metropolis stayed mostly intact for future generations to happen across. After clearing out the monsters and unsavory people, the Knights of Blue occupied the city and used its cathedral as a fort, attracting travelers to the now safe beauty of the city. Most travelers stayed and began reconstructing portions of the ruins and creating trades to support the financial growth of Drakon. These events lead to the current state of the city and its culture.

Tourism

Worshipers of Bahamut and historians of ancient dragonborn society come to visit this place. The religious travelers look directly to the grand cathedral while the historians simply wish to look at the expertly renovated ruins of a once long lost civilization. A museum of dragonborn civilization is a hot spot for historian activity. Other that come here purely for the view and beauty can be found frequenting the popular Twinkling Scale tavern as well as partaking in the annual Faire of Remembrance as a parade travels through the main road of the city and many of the shops host games. This time of celebration held on the 1st of Lythan is focused on remembering the humble beginnings of Drakon and what it is now as they breathe new life into the once dead and abandoned city.

Architecture

The stone work here is a nearly flawless reconstruction of the ancient dragonborn capital of Drakon. The builders were dragonborn, dwarf, and human alike as they all worked tirelessly to perfectly remake the city as it once was. Stone, glass, and marble are the primary materials used to craft the gothic Victorian architecture.

Geography

A river cuts through the city, separating the living and trade district from the religious district. A grand, stone bridge crosses the river in the valley below, rising above its waters to reach the grand cathedral of Bahamut. The majority of the city, the trade and living districts, are built on plateaus leading higher up as it cuts off at The White River, creating a cliff roughly 5,000 feet above sea level to the waters below. The city gate starts at about 3,500 feet above sea level as the entire city is nestled between cliffs that lead down to The White River below to the North, East, and West. About 250 to 300 feet across from this cliff is the Temple of Bahamut, or the religious district. Beautiful lights in the sky can be seen on most nights over Drakon as snow falls almost every day year-round.
