Lord Aldrich Kilian (a.k.a. Mandarin)
Natural philosopher and biochemist, member of The Ton.
Difficult birth has left him with a limp and limited use of his left arm. However, as it didn't diminish his intellectual capacity, his family opted not to put him in an asylum, and even encouraged his intellectual endeavours into biochemistry and medicine. Nevertheless, in his youth he had been ridiculed for his appearance. As a result, after taking over the Headship of Familia de Kilian in 2000, he started working with Lady Maia de Hansen on a genotype-altering virus called the Extremis. In 2011 they created mostly working prototype.
Problems with stabilising the energy levels and personality changes led them to seek help outside of the Familia. Maia de Hansen reached out to the old paramour, Lord Anthony de Stark. He however, busy after the battle of the Chitauri, wasn't interested. Kilian then decided to use his acquaintance with Stark's wife to gain his interest. When she refused him as well, Kilian orchestrated Lady Virginia Stark's kidnapping and injected her with Extremis. The subsequent events were, dubbed "Mandarin's attacks" by the media. Afterwards, the Council of the Ton has declared him insane and sentenced him to an internment in an asylum on Long Island
