He watched his father and brother leave town when he was a child, the day they didn't come back. He grew bitter from it.
His older brother used to be gentle, but still terrorized him every chance he got. Siblings are just like that, it seems. One time Z'nir slipped Ryn the unprocessed potion liquid in one of his foods, which caused terrible diarrhea for days.
His dad was always bookish, and Ryn would sometimes sneak into his study to read his books in the middle of the night before Fara sealed the room shut. He resents that, but can't blame her. She too was grief-stricken.
