Lorenzo Galhardo-Alverez
Captain Lorenzo Enrique Rafael Galhardo-Alverez (a.k.a. Captain, Lorie)
On the surface, Lorenzo can seem emotionally detached from everything other than his work. He likes this image, and prefers to keep it that way, since he feels he's too boring to socialize with other people and it makes him look like a strong leader. Rules are of the utmost importance to him. Lorenzo focuses heavily in keeping himself sharp mentally and physically, so he can be prepared at all times. Since he was young, Lorenzo has been diligent in his efforts to become the best Star Ranger he could possibly be, hoping that he might reach his father's status. He has a passion for the Interstellar Forces. Its history, its goals, its accomplishments--He could go on for hours. Sometimes, he gets carried away talking about it during briefings. His technical skills should have made him a shoe-in for being a ship captain, but he soon realized that people were....people, with thoughts and feelings, needs and concerns. He underestimated the importance of socialization in leadership. Connecting with his peers is something that has never been Lorenzo's forte. Even his own brother is something of a mystery to him. As a result, he's insecure about how to deal with his crew. After giving directives and monitoring his subordinates, Lorenzo usually shuts himself in his room to get away from having to talk to them. The only person he confides in is his brother.

Brother: Emil Galhardo-AlverezEmil Galhardo-AlverezEmil Galhardo-AlverezEmil Galhardo-AlverezEmil Galhardo-Alverez - "I wish he were a little bit more serious about his job, but honestly I don't know what I'd do without him." Lorenzo knows that his little brother loves and respects him, and wonders if he should express his support for Emil more, since he is one of the only two people Lorenzo trusts. Often, he gets on Emil for little things like not referring to people by titles like "Captain" or "Ranger", but he knows that his brother's heart is in the IF. He also realizes that he could not function on this ship if it weren't for Emil. His knack at establishing good connections with the other crew members makes Lorenzo wonder if he would've made the better captain.
Other Relationships
Leon - "He's average." Leon's skills as a star ranger are mediocre, but Lorenzo can see that he's dedicated to the IF almost as much as himself. He appreciates having a crew member like Leon aboard. Lorenzo also finds it funny how much he compliments Emil, knowing how easily his brother is affected by compliments. Mia - "Hmph." Mia seems to be a little clumsier than the other members, but Lorenzo can see that she's still trying. Still, he hasn't forgotten that time he caught her whispering about him during the first briefing... Roxie - "She's weird." Roxie makes Lorenzo the most self-conscious about his social skills because she always tries to strike up conversation with him. He can kinda see what she's doing and appreciates it, but isn't sure how or if he should open up. Jun - "Jun is probably more qualified to do my job than I am." Jun is the eldest member on the ship, the second-most experienced (besides Aiden, who is definitely not captain material), pretty solid at their job, and everyone looks up to them......including Lorenzo. He even feels like he'd be comfortable confiding in Jun, but that might be forcing them to overstep their boundaries. Lorenzo likes their personality, though. Aiden - "He seems like he might be a problem." Aiden expresses displeasure with authority in general, and to Lorenzo, that spells trouble. He's not so much afraid of disciplining Aiden if he needs to, but he is a little worried about how Emil might react if the situation comes up. Knowing Emil, he might be too lenient on Aiden and let him get away with rule-breaking activity. Angelo - "Suspicious...." Angelo does his job well enough, but he can't shake the feeling Angelo isn't really an adult. Lorenzo wonders if it's a test set up by the IF. Like any other test, he's going to ace it with flying colors.Social Aptitude
People tend to find his stoic nature off-putting. He never really needed companionship outside of home, so this didn't bother him too much. After all, he'd been told by his peers in various ways that his interests were boring. It was too much of a hassle to keep his kid brother from fighting every classmate that called him a nerd, so Lorenzo just quit trying. No one else got the memo, though. Throughout his later school life, his brother, concerned teachers, and family friends kept trying to send potential friends and dates his way, but to no avail. Lorenzo pushed them all away. These attempts only served in making him feel even more foolish and out of touch, and he just wanted to be left alone. He feels like he relates more to higher-ups in the IF than people his own age. Even still, small talk is always a chore.
Hobbies & Pets
Hobbies: Chess, Baseball, Reading, Stargazing, Cooking
Speech
Lorenzo is very formal in speech, the only exception being if he's talking in private with Emil. Then, he's only mostly formal. When giving directions or talking to a superior, his voice is terse and business-like, but among loved ones (or if he's caught off guard) he's a lot more soft-spoken.

I'm finally getting the chance to properly read your articles and so far this guy right here is my fave! :D I can sympathize with his social struggles a lot, and I like that you fleshed them out in a way that they don't just seem like a slapped on accessory, but they affect his whole life in significant ways. I wish him all the best with his dream!

Ahhhh, thank you!! I'm really glad you felt that his social struggles show through in different aspects of his character. I try to make sure that my character's personality traits and struggles aren't, as you say, 'slapped on'. It also kind of helps that I relate to him on a certain level as well ^^;. I'm glad you like him!!
