Scope
The motivation behind building Astraesto
Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.
Astronomy and space has long served as a source of wonder for me ever since I was a kid. That, along with a long love for space settings (I was practically raised on Star Wars), a desire to create my own worlds, and the discovery of World Anvil, has coalesced into Astraesto, a world I first began in 2020.
The goal of the project
This World has always been a passion project, one built on a love for science fiction and fantasy. The ability to create near infinite things possess a great satisfaction for me. To go from one side of a Galaxy to another, and create things foreign, or weird, and equally normal, or expected, leads to an awesome feeling. While I write for myself first and foremost, it is also important to me to leave the reader feeling like they want more, to discover more mysteries and solve secrets.
Ultimately, I purely gain satisfaction through the writing and development of this world. To create something that is mine, to shape and mold as I see fit.
Astraesto's Unique Selling point
Establishing a 'hook' for this world is a problem I long toyed with. It would not be a lie to say that early drafts of this world were nothing but cheap knockoffs or copycats of more popular works of fiction. As the years have passed however, I believe I have began to mold something that instead only uses such settings as a source of inspiration, rather than something to be copied.
If I had to write of a singular hook for this world, it would be the unique circumstances surrounding the human species. The distant colonists from an unknown world, who from nothing, have formed interstellar nations that possess immense power. They appear as the only truely intelligent species within the Galaxy, and Astraesto is their playground, for good, and for ill.
