Emerger Plague

The Disease that nearly toppled humanity

We look back upon it as a moment where we unified. We were a people beset by issues that no longer existed in our new Galaxy. But against the Plague, we stood together and threw aside our differences. A thousand moments can be set to have led to the greatest Golden Age of human history, but the Emerger Plague stands above most.

The Emerger Plague was a significant pandemic that primarily occurred from 14AC to 16AC, just as humanity began to gain a foothold in Astraesto from its capital system of Emergence. An incredibly deadly disease, the entire focus of the New Terran Republic quickly moved to its immediate elimination. Measures were quickly put in place to combat the disease, including full national scale lockdowns, forcing the Republic's four planetary possessions, Horizon, Kaelon, Lotera, and Rezain, to cease their mammoth expansion efforts.   With only a limited population, the Terran Government was quickly able to contain the worst of the outbreak, though not before the death of Maynard Thornton, the nation's inaugural Chancellor. The disease itself is often credited with forming a sense of national unity and pride among the Astraestoian colonists, who often felt a far more serious loyalty to the Homeland. Decades later, in 42AC, the Emerger Plague was considered completely eradicated, and the people were said to rejoice, having defeated their first true enemy, in a new and foreign galaxy.
