Astrosten

A dangerous element, most often compared to uranium

Astrosten is a chemical element with the symbol AT and the atomic number __. It is most well known for its military applications, where it provides similar services to Uranium, but with an even higher destructive capability. Just like Uranium, Astrosten is a highly unstable radioactive chemical element, and has a half-life almost double that of Uranium.   The element is universally found in the Galaxy of Astraesto, with the element being oddly absent from the rest of The Universe. Astrosten is found in a solid state, and is able to be mined, before being crushed similarly to Uranium ore.     Astrosten was first discovered in 47AC by New Terran Republic miners on Sustein. It was originally intended to be used as a fuel source for early Astraesto starships, including both civilian and exploratory vessels. Soon after it was discovered and mining first began, the military applications for the element became apparent, including its ability to completely annihilate entire cities. Sustein became a polluted wasteland of mining, causing uproar across the New Terran Republic. Astrosten saw a complete ban, both in its use, and any and all mining expeditions.    The ban by the New Terran Republic has mostly remained intact into the present day. However, almost all the major nations, including both the Federation of Anfieden and Allied Planets and the 4th Empire of Jerace hold a large stockpile of missiles loaded with a Astrosten armament - such as the Minosko Missile of the Federation.
