Corvus: Capital City of Erest

Demographics

At the forming of Corvus even before the rise of Erest as a republic, the city was built by the three groups of the valley. Dwarves from the rocky mountain ranges surrounding the valley, the gnomes living deep in the forests, and the nomadic humans that settled in the valley to avoid the growing nations to the south. As the city grew and kings stepped down for a republic to rise up more races and people were drawn to Erest and settled in the capital making Corvus the most diverse capital cities in the realm.

Government

After the kings of Erest stepped down the first republic senate was established, across the territory of Erest representatives for the three racial groups were now elected by voting. The elected representatives became members of the Erest Senate and oversaw the Republic and its affairs.

Defences

Due in part to the large amounts of wealth located in Corvus and its strategic yet isolated location the capital city needed to be built in such a way that it could withstand assault and prolonged isolation. With tall and thick stone walls surrounding the entirety of the city as well as the many magical wards and abjuration spells placed by Alnwick Caris, Corvus is virtually impregnable.

Industry & Trade

The largest area of trade comes in the form of gold, with all kingdoms of the realm using the coins produced in Corvus, especially the gold coin, these kingdoms pay a tax and necessary fee to Erest to fund the continual production of coins.

Infrastructure

Forges: When the dwarves brought their people deeper into the valley to Crovus they brought their forging technology with them. Building grand forges to meltdown and forge precious metals the dwarven district of Corvus is known for its towering vents from the forges found there.   Minting: After years spent amassing individual wealth the rise of the mixed-race group under the now-forgotten fourth king led to the creation of the minting presses and the first bank using the technology of the other three races. Gold once hoarded now used to mint coins that are used across the realm the process of minting became the trademark of the Erest Republic and the capital city of Corvus.   Postal system: WIth the rise of trade and commerce in Erest following the growing use of the gold coins being minted the need for a safe and controlled means of transportation of goods and information was needed. Under the Merx Post, information and goods were now reaching not only the corners of the Erest Republic but across the world.   Roads: As the speed of imports and exports grew so too did the need for proper roads to be built for the trading caravans. Erecting a grand road on the same path the first settlers used the Republic Erest connected its capital city to the capital city of Sanctum in the south and built smaller roads branching off like veins to connect the towns in the outer territories.   Water: With the capital city resting in the center of a high ridged valley water was a vital necessity. With the river to the west not being large enough to fully support the large city the dwarves of Corvus were given a task, built elaborate tunnels through the rocky cliffs in the north that would allow aqueducts to be constructed and transport water too and from the city.

Districts

The city itself is split into five districts representing the four groups that were the foundation for Corvus and the Republic of Erest and the council that is elected to oversee it. In the upper west of the city is the district made for the dwarves, the Forge District as it is now called is built closest to the cityside facing the mountains and is comprised of great forges and stone houses where a majority of the dwarven population resides to date. On the lower west side of Corvus is the district made for the gnomes, later called the Clockwork District it is closest to the cityside facing the river which is used to power many gnome-made inventions in the district. In the lower east side is the district made for the human population of Corvus and was named the Trade District after the many markets that arose as trade flourished in the city, built towards the main gates of the city the Trade District acting as the entry point into the city. In the upper east is the Financial District or Mint District, the newest district in comparison made for those who either wished to find new opportunities or leave pasts behind. Built around the grand mint the district is comprised of the many businesses and jobs surrounding the mint and its employees. The last district is the highest and centermost district which houses the Erest Council and the court of law in its entirety

Assets

As the sole location of the minting process of coins in the realm, the wealth of Corvus and Erest as a whole is several times larger than most. Located on a vast network of gold veins and other precious metals Corvus is vastly wealthy.
