Elves

A People with a Voice

The elves have been ill-fated in Arrhynsia almost since the beginning of their existence, when the Voices called to the first races. Called by Lameravis a god more interested in the pursuit of beauty, harmony and pleasure than in the safety and security of his people, he traveled extensively throughout the planes flitting from experience to experience, leaving his people in the care of the Six. These, his chosen and most favored, were selected on the basis of their fairness of form and their love of harmony as was consistent with the values of their god. The Six he made gods, and divided his people among them for their care while he traveled.

The Doom of a Pantheon

The Betrayal is a well documented historical and theological crisis that involved not just the Six and Lamervaris, the gods of the elves, but also the other Voices. The crisis resulted in the death of all the elven gods with the exception of Ligeoa, who was banished to the Dark Caverns with her people the Dark Elves. The tale of the Betrayal is well documented in the work The Dawn of the Gods. The remaining surface dwelling elves are a deeply wounded people, with no god and harsh thick scars from their lack.

The Aftermath of Tragedy

Three demi-gods rose from the ruin left by the catastrophe that was the Betrayal, but none of them have recovered the glory and substance of the original elven gods. The three currently living mortal demi-gods are The Iconoclast who teaches self sufficiency rejecting all forms of dependence and cooperation between people, The Ascetic who rejects all forms of self indulgence and teaches that denial of self leads to fulfillment and happiness, and The Green Lady who suffers from a debilitating illness, but who presses forward, encouraging her people to pursue the common good and lead lives in service to a worthwhile cause.   All three reside in the Echovad Forrest.
