Ligeoa Character in Arrhynsia | World Anvil

Ligeoa (Lee-joh-ah)

Responsible for the catastrophic Betrayal and the loss of the elven Voice Lameravis and the Five (see The Dawn of the Gods ), Ligeoa is a godess of terrible power and mad evil. Masquerading as an innocent, she plotted the death and destruction of the Five including her own brother, who defeated her yet showed her mercy to his doom. Her evil reached even to destroying Lameravis himself. The devastation of the Betrayal on elven society was profound, and the impacts of it are still felt in elven lands today in the extreme isolationism and disorganization in social structures.   Ligeoa is confined with the Dark Elves who supported her during the Betrayal by the dwarves in the dark caverns under the city of Uftlon. Her godhhood is restrained by the holy power of the All Father, allowing the dwarves to deal with the dark elves. Little is known of her activities since confinement, except that she has twisted the dark elves from their former beauty and power into an evil and twisted race. They practice the ritual public sacrifice of sentient beings to Ligeoa, commonly selecting outsiders captured from the surface dwellers, but also selecting sacrifices from among their own people. The consumption of the flesh of sentient beings including children is a common practice reported by escaped dwarven prisoners. Posionings, violence, and gang warfare between dark elf families is common.   Ligeoa herself seems to revel in this chaos. She demands absolute compliance to her laws and whims. She claims (technically correctly) to be the only goddess of the elves, but rules through terror and pain. She is rumored to delight in torture. Among the dark elves a superstition persists that she can hear her name spoken, and listen to those conversations. It is unclear if this is true, but dark elf prisoners will not speak her name, but rather refer to her only as the "Mistress".   Periodically, a rumor is begun that the dark elves will revolt against her rule, but this has not been accomplished in the seven thousand years since her entombment with her people.
This image was extracted from a dark elf prisoner's memory by necromantic spells and is believed to be of Ligeoa in battle fury. Ligeoa was formerly Larisa, most beloved of Lameravis. The image shows a significant transformation from art of the goddess that is dated prior to the Betrayal.
