Hawk Island
Hawk Island used to be under the rule of Sir Sylas Fenheart , losing control of the Island 50 years ago to House Oakenshield . Since the start of Oakenshield rule, Hawk Island has been completely cut off from the outside world other then Oakenshield slaver ships. A few months ago, when Duke Sozkeden Valkar rose at the battle of Red Lake and took over the lands of Oakenshield, Hawk Island fell to the hands of the vampires. Recently the inhabitants have revolted, and two-thirds of the Island if free.
Hawk Island is located roughly 50 miles of the East Coast of Eregoth. The Duchy of Raincourt is the closest part of Eregoth to Hawk Island.
The Island has three "major cities", Port Velarno in the south of the Island, Tomasa is in the middle of the island, and Heskin is in the northeast part of the Island. Port Velarno is the only city that has the ability to have a port. The Coast around the majority of Hawk Island is very rocky and hard to travel, and the places easily accessible to bipedal beings are on higher places along Hawk Island, Velarno is the only place at Sea Level and has an easier way of travel for ships. Tomasa is the capital of Hawk Island. When the Xomalai was brought to the Material Plane in recent times, Tomasa was ground zero. It was destroyed by the Archon, and only has a handful of survivors left trying to rebuild. Heskin is the place where Hawk Island gets it's metal resources, as it has the only mines on the Island. Not much is known about the rest of Hawk Island, for outsiders where not welcome until recent times
The Island was recently hit by the tsunami that was caused from the fall of Zeno's. The lower third part of the island was decimated by the wave, Port Velarno was completely destroyed. The citizens of the Port had enough warning to get all the magic user together and teleport them safely to Heskin. As of the Night of High Magic no one knows if Tomasa was spared the wave's destruction.
Geography
Hawk Island is a very dangerous Island for ships. The coast has only a few spots where a big ship could safely land, many sandbars and rocks hide just bellow the waves around Hawk Island. There are coves dotting the coast that allow smugglers to make a decent profit bringing contraband into the island. The Northern part of the island is a steeper incline, allowing for steeper cliffs and no good landing spots for boats. The North has the only mines of Hawk Island, the South has the only port, and the majority of the rest is deep beautiful forests.
The weather on Hawk Island is moderate year round. During the Winter, some parts of the Island will have snowfall but the majority of the Island during winter doesn't freeze. And during summer months, the coastal breeze and afternoon showers keep the temperature to an enjoyable heat.
Fauna & Flora
Many animals live on Hawk Island. With the occupation for the last 50 years, and the vampires, the majority of the animals were allowed to flourish. With the small and bigger game being allowed to live unrestrained, beasts and monstrosities have also been able to flourish. Many families of displacer beasts roam the island, harpies patrol the skies, and wyverns have been rumored to have been seen. Rocs live on a small island that is part of Hawk Island, so ever once in a while an Eagle the size of a Dragon will hunt across the entire island.
Hawk Island's forests are mostly made of Pinophyta, or Conifers. Having high amounts of rainfall have made the islands Forests into some of the most dense forests able to be traveled. On the coasts and towards the South where the lands is a little more level, most of the trees are Coastal Redwoods, Coastal Douglas Firs, the Shore Pine, and the Hawk Island Red-cedar. Toward the North and in the more mountains parts of the Island the Hawk Island Hemlock grows as well as the Wyvern spruce. Mosses and epiphytes cover the trees in dense growths, while verdant vegetation is found everywhere.
Natural Resources
Hawk Island is abundant in natural resources. A good amount of the Island is covered in forests, so lumber is not a problem. The wildlife has grown immensely the last 50 years so hunters have many ways to provide. To the North there are mines, as of right now the only mine known to outsiders is a sulfur mine in Heskin. Farm lands cover the land outside of Port Velarno, providing much of the food for the people of Hawk Island.
