L'nai Tradition / Ritual in Ardre | World Anvil

L'nai

More commonly called "planting," L'nai is an old Milosian funereal tradition that can still be found in some Siiari and Rathi settlements. It involves burying the body of the recently dead along with certain ritual offerings, which results in a great tree growing from the site of the loved one's burial. These trees were traditionally called Cloister Trees, though they are more commonly referred to as Grave Trees or especially Life Trees.   Some have suggested that the entirety of the Fiirwood grew out of the graves of the dead, but of course most trees in the Fiirwood are pine, and legends typically record Life Trees as oak, yew, or willow. Those few trees in the Fiirwood that are not pine (as well as the rare tree found in the Rathlands), are often claimed as Life Trees by the local peasantry.
