Rathi
From the Aernigh for "river," the Rathi are the southern Ethelites who live between the Blue Wyrm River and the River Scath. Considered less civilized than their northern and eastern neighbors, the Rathi are often associated with the Revellians to the south: simpler, more superstitious, and of less social value. The proliferation of swamps and 'barkwood' forests in the region help perpetuate this claim.
Rathi are generally seen as smaller and plainer than other Ethelites. The Eysch had not permeated this area as much, so likewise the yellow hair and pale eyes that have become common to the rest of Ethel are not seen so often here.

Peint: A simple term for painting. The ancient Rathi supposedly painted their bodies with blue dyes they believed granted them magical powers. These dyes were said to be have been given to the Kings of Rath by the Sunset Siren. Unlike Norrish magics, this power could supposedly be practiced by both men and women. The exact nature of this magic is entirely unknown, though it is chiefly described as aiding them in battle. The power was supposedly lost when the Rathi were subjugated by the Ethels.
Today, Rathi bandits have been known to paint themselves with mud or occasionally stolen dyes. The Glass Arms are especially known for this.
