Princess Dienna Ainros
The first daughter and second child of Prince Geralt the Black Dog and Lady Ideina Tallmun.
Dienna's very conception was controversial, as her father Prince Geralt insisted he had not touched his wife since the first moon of their wedding, and thence accused his younger brother Ruarc of "tilling my fields." The two fought a hollymock over the accusation. Ruarc took a serious wound in the conflict, but would ultimately prevail, proving his innocence and Ideina's.
Prince Geralt was oft away in battle, and Dienna's uncle Prince Ruarc filled the absence he left. Prince Geralt died at seven-and-twenty in the Third Battle of the Pass, and Ruarc became father to Dienna and her elder brother Garlad. This would work against them when Gwynt the Ghastly finally assumed the crown. So great was Gwynt's hatred for Ruarc that he imprisoned not only Ideina (whom he married not long after Geralt's death), but their children as well: Garlad, Dienna, and young Ronart whom the two had born after marrying. Dienna spent several years of her childhood imprisoned.
In fact, she was not given freedom of the castle until she agreed to be wed to King Gwynt. Wedding cousins was unusual but not unheard of, yet still this marriage was decried as politically impotent, motivated solely by Gwynt's hatred of the unfamiliar. Princess Dienna did not seem to relish marrying her cruel cousin, but she did consent to it.
Others were far louder in their objections, chief among them Dienna's Aunt Aedein. Princess Aedein famously stole Dienna away during the Feast of Fairess and fled west with her. Aedein would become known as the Witch Queen of Malbrand, somehow seizing the seat of Clan Marnock. The Witches' War would result in the end of that ancient clan. Aedein would eventually be defeated, disemboweled and burned living.
What happened to Princess Dienna is unknown to this day.
