Cektoh

One of the youngest of the Frontier Lands nations, Cektoh is a vibrant and growing Kingdom.

Structure

Right now Wilkin Westadt is the ruler, and king. So far he has yet to appoint any lesser nobles as the kingdom is still too small. He has however appointed a number of reeves that answer directly to him.

Public Agenda

Cwktoh's current agenda right now is expansion. The nation seeks to expand it's borders, as well as further secure the land it already possesses.

Assets

Wilkin Westadt has been working to expand the infrastructure of his kingdom. To that end he has built a number of roads, that while unpaved are well maintained. He also has seen to the construction of a number of bridges on the Rozux River to further aid travel and commerce within the kingdom. He has seen to the construction of mills in strategic locations throughout the kingdom. As the last few harvests have been particularly bountiful Westadt has constructed granaries to store the surplus for future times.

History

People have been settling along this region of the Rozux river for nearly a century. These were largely scattered farmsteads of people seeking to eke out a new life having migrated from the New Kingdoms. It was only about thirty years ago that Wilkin Westadt established this region as the kingdom of Cektoh. He did so by bringing in an influx of new settlers and seeing to major improvements to the region. Since he has done little to interfere with the day to day life of the people in the region, most of the earlier settlers were willing to stay under his rule, especially since he was offering protection against the marauding humanoids.

Demography and Population

Cektoh has a total population of 137,454 persons, broken down as follows: Human 50,858, Halfling 27,491, Dwarf 24,742, Elf 13,745, Gnome 9,622, Other 10,997.

Military

Like most of the Frontier Land kingdoms Cektoh is too small to field a dedicated military. It has a militia it can call up in emergencies, but otherwise relies on mercenary companies from the south for security.

Religion

Despite Wilkin Westadt being a cleric of Laki, Cektoh has no state religion. Eresu is the most popular deity, though shrines and temples to the other nonevil deities can be found. In particular Arammu, Azu, Laki, Mudutu, Narum, Utu, and Vaalea are popular, as is the Green Faith.

Foreign Relations

Cektoh's closest friend and ally is Ethfamen , and currently Wilkin Westadt is working to sign a mutual defense treaty with Cynesige Apfelnähe the latter is a little reluctant as Cektoh doesn't bring a lot to the table. Onzethcalet however has signed such a treaty, as Westadt is one of the few Frontier Land rulers willing to ally with Ælfheah Handfläche due to her problems with Wynnstan Scheuer of Hirschtal. The kingdom is on neutral terms with Tiefhohl as both kingdoms covet the same stretch of land. The land is on fairly good terms with Sarhólgahnúm though they have yet to establish formal diplomatic relations. The relations with Windbrücke and Westadt is giving serious consideration to joining Wynnstan Elynbrüke in his plan to embargo the city of What. The kingdom is otherwise on good terms with the other Frontier Land nations.

Agriculture & Industry

Cektoh is a pastoral kingdom with the bulk of its inhabitants being farmers or herders. Most of the farmers grow wheat, barley, peas, and/or oats. Herders primarily herd sheep and goats, with a minority herding pigs or cattle. In addition, most farmers and herders maintain small vegetable gardens. There are a few craftsmen scattered throughout the land most providing for the farmers. The primary exports of Cektoh are grain, mutton and wool, the people not producing enough surplus of anything else to export. While the land is fairly self-sufficient timber, and metals must be imported as local sources of ores, have yet to be found and local stands of trees aren’t dense enough to support large-scale logging operations.

Trade & Transport

Cektoh trades primarily with Onzethcalet, EThfamen, Tiefhohl, Windbrücke, and Orthatebh. Cektoh exports largely grain, mutton, and wool, and imports finished goods, and lumber. Whille the kingdom has few paved roads outside of Anfang, the roads it has are well maintained. Trade is conducted mostly via the Rozux river, though there is an overland route to Ethfamen, that Wilkin and Cynesige, are working together to have it upgraded to a full highway with guard stations along the route. Wilkin is attempting to negotiate a trade agreement with Damerrel Anaphrimral so far the ruler of Sarhólgahnúm has shown little interest.

Education

Education ins Cektoh is handled by the churches of Emku and Mudutu. Most of the inhabutants of Cektoh are literate and can do basic math. A large percentage have a good grasp of history and geography as well.

Infrastructure

As mentioned previously the small kingdom has a good network of roads, that while largely not paved, are well maintained. Wilkin has constructed both mills for processing grain and granaries for storing it at strategic locations throughout the kingdom, and plans to build morea as the kingdom expands. He is currently in the process of constructing border towers to defend the kingdom. Onlly Anfang as of yet has a sewage system inplace, as most towns simply dump waste into the street where it’s picked up by workers who use it to fertilize the fields.

Major Exports
Cektoh’s exports consists grains, primarily wheat barley and oats, peas, mutton, and wool. A few bold hunters make a living on the abundance of herd animals in the wilds outside of the developed areas of Cektoh, trading in furs and meat. Wilkin would like to harvest the resources of the Neknokmem forest, but the large number of fey that guard the forest prevents full scale harvesting of lumber except from the fringes of the forest. Attempts by Wilkin to negotiate a deal with the fey have so far been unfruitful. The hills north of Cektoh are rich in marble and slate however they are also home to tribes of kolbods who make harvesting these rocks impossible.
Major Imports
Cektoh imports mostly finished goods and lumber. It has few craftsmen as yet so most finished goods have to be imported from other regions. Likewise, it has few stands of timber, and must import it for buildings and the like. It also must import stone like granite, slate and marble.
Legislative Body
Cektoh doesn't have a legislative body. Laws are created by decrees issued by Wilkin Westadt..
Judicial Body
High justice is in the hands of Wilkin Westadt. Low justice is handled by a number of reeves appointed by Westadt, although the decisions of a reeve can be appealed to Westadt.
