His Majesty Wynnstan Oswine Elynbrüke

The ruler of Windbrüke is fiercely loyal to his nation and its people and seeks to improve their lots as best he can. He is also a devotee of liberty and seeks to give his people maximum freedom while maintaining just enough government to protect their liberty.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Wynnstan is in good physical condition, and works out every morning in his salle, practicing regularly and tries to go riding at least once a week. His rides however are usually interrupted when he stops to offer a hand on a farm, an activity he enjoys.

He is tall (6’4”) with an average build, fair skin and medium brown hair.

He is a decent looking man, with rugged features, a large nose, a long mustache and one blue and one green eye.

He has a small birthmark on his right calf, and a tattoo of a sheaf of wheat on his left shoulder.

Among the items possessed by Wynnstan are a magical longsword that he can sheath in crackling electricity, a magical suit of full plate that protects him from positive and negative energy, a magical shield, a pair of boots that allow him to traverse long distances without tiring, a headband that renders him more intimidating, a necklace of beads that can be thrown to generate fireballs, and a cloak that allows him to cast certain low-level spells as if her were a wizard.

Personal history

Wynnstan Elynbrüke is the son of Ælfwine and grandson of Cynebauer is the eldest of five children. He has two brothers and two sisters. As a child he was trained as a warrior, learning weapons and how to wear armor, but he also received an education learning his letters and numbers. As a youth his training was expanded to include courtly manners and etiquette by a tutor imported from the New Kingdoms for this purpose. As a young adult, with his father’s encouragement he travelled his future kingdom learning the ways of his people and protecting them from threats. He gained a good deal of knowledge of farming and herding, and quite a bit of experience as a fighter. When he was 21, His father summoned him back to court. His father in his late forties at this point, was ready to retire and felt his son was ready to take the throne. Since then he has ruled well, often seeking his father’s advice, but taking a firm hand on the reins of leadership. Before turning the throne over to him, his father had appointed his two younger brothers as dukes and married of his oldest sister. Since coming to the throne, he has betrothed his youngest sister to Cynesige Apfelnähe of Ethfamen. He has been working to implement numerous improvements utilizing observations and ideas he picked up as an adventurer.

Education

Wynnstan was trained by private tutors. As a child he ha d a tutor for academic subjects and a tutor in arms and weapon play. From a young age his father wished for him and his brothers to be prepared to defend themselves and the kingdom. When he grew older, he was assigned more tutors one to train him in manners and courtly etiquette, and another to train him on strategy and tactics. Finally, he picked up a lot of knowledge about farming and herding while travelling his kingdom, and to this day he is known to occasionally stop to lend a hand on farms and ranches in his kingdom.

Employment

From his youth Wynnstan was trained to be a warrior and a ruler. He has been a warrior most of his adult life, and a ruler for the last few years.

Accomplishments & Achievements

His biggest accomplishment was leading a battalion of his father’s army when he was 18, and the kingdom faced an invasion of hobgoblins from the east. Despite having an adjutant assigned to keep an eye on him, he acquitted himself well. Nothing spectacular, but then he was wise enough to not go seeking heroics but to lead his men well.

Intellectual Characteristics

Wynnstan has an active intellect, always seeking a better way to do things. However, he’s not an intellectual giant, but is wise enough to realize his own limitations, so he surrounds himself with advisers who are well learned in various areas. While he takes their advice seriously, he makes it clear that the final decisions are his.

Wynnstan acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. Wynnstan believe in the importance of close-knit families and strong communities and strives to teach others to be self-sufficient. He reveres order and law, regarding these concepts as the answer to all of civilization’s problems; for him, a strong, benevolent government is what allows civilizations to thrive. He strives for order and organization. He views a strong government as necessary for civilization’s cultivation, and strong families and communities as the building blocks of successful settlements. He uses his creativity and skills to teach others how to improve their lives and communities, and gladly offers his assistance when others are moved to create order and structure.

Wynnstan is motivated by the desire to do the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. He seeks to improve the lot of his people in any way he can while at the same time leaving the maximum freedom. To this extent he prefers to encourage his people rather than legislate. He is more prone to eliminate a law or posting than he is to create a new one.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

He enjoys metalworking in his limited spare time, and is actually quite proficient, he is also a shrewd negotiator learning the art of the deal from his merchant parents. However, he is bad at bossing and ordering, preferring to try to lead by example rather than giving orders, a flaw that allows for many of his nobles to engage in underhanded dealing when they think he is not looking.

As mentioned, before he enjoys metalworking, and likes to negotiate, getting a sense of satisfaction from a good bargain. He dislikes unnecessary government and is always looking for ways to minimize his without compromising the security of his kingdom. He hates evil and is quick to punish any evil acts brought to his attention, including acts by his nobles.

His greatest virtue is his desire to be a good ruler for his people. He also tends to seek advice from those who are better versed in whatever issue comes to his attention. Not that he can’ make quick decisions on his own, but when he has the time, he prefers to think a problem over.

If he has a flaw it is his belief that all people are inherently good. To this extent he allows his subjects the maximum amount of freedom he can, a practice which some of his nobles take advantage of to garner as much wealth and power as they can.

He tends to roll his “Rs”, which can be annoying to some. It’s a habit he picked up in his youth and gives him a distinctive manner of speech.

He is on god terms with most of the nearby rulers in particular he has trade and mutual defense deals with the three elven kingdoms that are near to Windbrüke. He is related to Cynesige Apfelnähe of Ethfamen by marriage and the two of them work closely together.

Wynnstan iis rare for a ruler that he follows the Green Faith rather then the pantheon.

Social Aptitude

Wynnstan is not a public speaker by far and when forced to give a speech often comes across as slightly bewildered. Whether this is deliberate on his part to get people to underestimate him or is just a quirk of his nature is a secret known only to Wynnstan. He is otherwise a genial and patriotic individual, who loves his land and its people.

Hobbies & Pets

He has a pair of great danes that he is very fond of and often takes with him when he tours the kingdom. HE enjoys metal working and actually has some small talent at it, often assisting or even making the repairs to his quipment.

Wealth & Financial state

Windbrüke is an affluent nation, and Wynnstan strives to keep taxes low, as a result commerce is booming, and he draws in quite a bit of revenue. While some of it he stashes away for lean times, much of the revenue he draws is reinvested in various public works projects throughout the kingdom. While he does dress the part of a king and maintains a royal household he is otherwise thrifty in his personal spending preferring to live a somewhat spartan lifestyle except when matters of state force him to do otherwise.
