Lochines

Lochines is a town split unofficially into middle and lower class. It is a few kilometers away from Asmye, and many Lochinians go work there. There is one small school for boys, taught by a male teacher. Very few lower class boys go there.

Pronunciation

LOW-kines ('kines' is pronounced like 'kinds', just without the 'd')

Industry & Trade

They get most of their food supplies from Asmye, but some low class farmers grow and sell their own crops and pastoral products. The inhabitants mostly work in Asmye.

Infrastructure

It is mainly a residential area due to the cclose proximity of Asmye, but there are dirt roads throughout the town. Everything of better quality is in the north, but the services are found in the middle. They have a town square surrounded by a bakery, a butchery, a millery and a blacksmithery.

History

It used to be two separate settlements that grew together over time, which accounts for the class separation. The two towns were called Loch and Hines. The names were only officially joined when a woman from the north and a man from the south married. The woman came from an influental family, whcih helped enforce the change. Hines (in the South) would have ceased to exist soon if the merge had not occured, because of some really bad winters.

Architecture

The lower class part of it (south) is made up of one-story houses made of wood. (See my article on typical houses in lower class for more details). The north houses the middle class and is made of one story houses made of stone.

Geography

It is inland, and several kilometres away from the main forest, the Wandering Woods. A small creek flows through the South-East of the town, and toward the south-east it is a few kilometers away from the main channel of Dragonfly Canal.

Natural Resources

The soil is relatively fertile, and there are a few farmer that grow wheat and barley for the local butcher and to be exported to Asmye. Some wood is available from the nearby trees
