Arburgian Government

Although my world is called Arburg, it is actually only a country within a much bigger world. I focus solely on Arburg, although I may mention som neighbouring countries briefly. Who knows. Maybe someday I'll explore the land around Arburg, although I doubt that will occur any time in the near future.

Arburg is a land run by its Arburgian government. More specifically, it is a monarchy. Technically, it is a patriarchy (a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it), as descent of the rulers is reckoned through the male line. The King must have a bride when he ascends to the throne (see here: The King's new bride). The only time in history when a queen ruled the land was during Queen Elodie's reign. Structure

The King and his Queen are the highest positions of the government, with the queen jsut below the king. Below them are the Elders (see link for more). They help the King with his rule. Then come the high, middle and lower classes.

History

Arburg's monarchy was created by Harold I, after his father undertook The Great Conquering. He saw a political vacuum and decided to fill it with, in his mind, the perfect system of government. The government itself has ruled peacefully for the past 287 years, with a few minor bumps in the road. There have been some natural disasters, and, like any country, Arburg has suffered through its fair share of problems. For more information, see here )

Education

A Governor/Governess can be hired, and often is, in middle and higher class homes. There are some public schools around, which only allows boys. Generally only lower class boys go there. The only way a girl can get an education is by hiring a governor or governess.

Founding Date

It began when the Arburgian time began: on the first day of Helena(their first month) in year 1. This means that the current year tells you how many years Arburg's government and country has existed, making every year a further success.

Currency

Arburg's currency is known as Arburgian Silver, and is a series of coins. It was established by and during the reign of the first king of Arburg, King Harold I. It is used throughout the kingdom, Atra being the only exception to that.
