First Spinner Home

The source of all Great Tree Thread within the city is a massive complex of buildings that never stop their ceasless whiring. The complex is split into 6 different areas a goods in, a processing into fiber area, a spinning area, a goods out area, a set of offices and finally the location of the Great Weave which is housed in it's own seperate area. Being in the First Ring it also is something of an odd location as it's still technically a factory though the process to turn raw Great Tree Leaves into Great Tree Fiber is one fueled not by chemicals but by magic so aside from the sound there is not much pollution present unlike other factories present elsewhere in the city otherwise the The Silver Council may have exerted their influence to have it move much to the dismay of the Weavers.
"I once got a look at the Great Weave, the whole thing didn't make much sense to me big pictures of all kinds of stuff funny bit was they wouldn't let me see the start..." - Filtwick "Whiskers" Black

Appearance

As mentioned before it is not so much a single building but a collection of them and each is a unique construction suited for it's purpose.

Goods In and Out

Both of these building are similar in structure and have been made of brick with huge loading bays that used to empty out directly on to the canals nearby but these days are loaded on to trucks and then shipped to the trains to be transported out further in the city. These two buildings are very much the factory face of the complex

Fiber Processing Plant

This building is a huge circular shaped structure with multiple arcane glass windows surrounding the entire structure. The top of which is completly open to the air above and has a powerful enchantement cast on it to keep out the rain but allow the fumes to escape naturally. This building is where the Leaves are taken after an initial inspection by goods in and they begin processing in many of the large vats situated across the huge building.

Spinning Rooms

This building is not so much a building but several interconnected rooms that allow multiple fiber qualities to be produced. The outside of the building appears to be in the style of a roman church large colums of marble like stone reach into the sky holding aloft a great peaked roof made of clay tiles. Inside is a maze of thread constantly moving from room to room being mixed and sorted according to need and contracts.

The Great Weave

At the very back of the complex is one of the oldest buildings in Arbor and it also one of it's strangest. The entire structure appears to be a giant ball of thread the ends of which each dig deep into the ground all around the area. A single entryway through the thread allows one to step inside and see the great loom which continues to weave the threads together forming the massive tapestry which hangs from the inside of the huge "room"

Purpose

There are two purposes to this massive complex:
  1. To create and provide all the necessary thread to the City of Arbor based on the contracts agreed upon by the First Thread
  2. To maintain and chronicle the events of Arbor and it's history no matter how small or mundane in the Great Weave
To fufill these dual purposes the Hand Weavers and Spinners guild never stops there is a constant supply of workers tuning machines providing magical energy and loading and unloading trucks, trains and boats. This is a 24/7 operation, accidents are frequent shuttle cocks and thread spinners move quickly and the machines have little in the way of safety. Many low level employees are missing fingers or in the worst case whole limbs and often children are sent to work here as their small size means they disturb the thread less and can get into the small areas between machines.

History

The Original building that the Weavers had was where the Great Weave is currently though it did not look as it did now. No originally the building was simply like many other in the area a simple thatch, waddle and daub building that had the first spinners who did so by hand and seperated the fibers of the great tree. Those early days lead to the creation of the company itself and the eventaul expansion into the surrounding areaq23s.    When and why the original building became as it did no one outside the inner circle of the Weavers is sure suffice to say it has passed from living memory and thus it may as well always have been as such.   As for the other buildings and their makeup much of how they are setup is dictated by the machines inside though for the spinner room this was a repouposed building that was originally used as the spinner rooms when it was done by hand.

Rumors

With a building this old and in parts strange many rumors abound.

Spiders

This rumor mostly pertains to the great weave or perhaps to the room where it is kept. Some particularly imaginative people believe that the Great Weave is not spun by the old loom inside the building but by an army of spiders both mechanical and biological. It was at one point therorized that the First Thread themseleves was some kind of before now unkown Beastkin of insect origin but this rumor has been quashed multiple times by the thread themselves and multiple public appearances later it appears to have died down. However the original rumor has done nothing to go away and on clear nights when the spinners stop for oil, they say you can hear the soft sound of the clittering spiders as they work away.

Memoria intra Weave

Much of the building is old and the oldest object inside it is the Great Weave. And old objects have a way of being more than just objects in Arbor. The rumor is that the Great Weave itself is alive and dictating what it needs to see in it's next section this fuels the already existing rumor that the Great Weave is not simply recording history but also predicting it.

Lost Ones

As with most factories in Arbor accidents happen and many are finger or in worst case arm have been lost to the machines that produce the clothing on the backs of millions. However in addition to these accidents many others have simply gone missing at regular intervals, always children and always a payment is made to parents to compensate them for their loss. It's strange though no other payments are made but in this one instance the Weavers guild is undeniably generous.

Special Properties

Near the great weave there appears to be an odd magic in place that prevents fires from starting. In addition coins when flipped will always land on their called side and similar luck bending effects have been obsereved. What this means though is anyones guess.
