Black Church

The nexus for all of The Flamewalkers activites, none have ever seem location itself but that doesn't stop rumors from spreading about it's supposed existence, if it even is a real place. Supposedly it lies at the epicenter of the remains of a great fire that took place in the Twigs. A single church to The Order of the Fallen Leaves that's structure survived the horrific blaze. Because the Church's especially important ones are composed almost entirely of Great Tree Wood the building has supposedly survived intact though the outside and in is covered in soot making it appear completely black. Still further is that the while the interior is covered in the same soot the walls and floors have noticable blank spaces where hundreds would have been consumed by the blaze their final moments forever burned into the wood in an eerie effigy. These are only rumors of course...
"I saw the black church once, from a distance... I think. The soot on the walls made it look like it was made of shadow, and the only thing that stood out were the silhouettes of people burned into the wood. It was like they were trapped inside, forever screaming in agony." - Marta, a local shopkeeper

Appearance

The Black Church is said to be a grand and imposing structure, with tall spires reaching towards the sky. It is said to be made entirely of dark, soot-covered Great Tree Wood, making it appear as if it were constructed from obsidian. The windows, if there are any, are said to be small and narrow, letting in only the faintest sliver of light. The door, if one exists, is rumored to be large and heavy, with intricate carvings covering its surface. Some say that the carvings depict scenes of fire and destruction, while others claim they are of twisted, demonic figures. Many speculate that the church is surrounded by a high wall, with only a single entrance that is heavily guarded at all times. The most striking feature of the Black Church, however, is said to be the silhouettes of people's outlines burned into the walls, as if they were consumed by the flames and their final moments forever etched into the wood.

Localized Phenomenon

The most terrifying rumor about the Black Church though is not it's decor or even the silhouettes of those who did not survive the great fire but the noises nay screams that emanate from it's walls. Some have insisted they have seen people in the streets on occasion fleeing a fire that does not exist screaming about being unable to breath or escape only to vanish a few moments later. The fire seems to still be burning at least within the walls of the church trapping the pour souls forever in a memory of being consumed by flame.

History

As stated previously the Black Church is supposedly the only surviving building from a great fire that ravaged through the Twigs some many years ago. As for the fire referenced itself because it's the Twigs there are very little records of when and where such a fire started though the largest such fire ever recorded in the area killed nearly 10,000 people as it ravaged through the row houses and people became trapped due to the high winds forcing the huge blaze down row after row. Neighbors could do nothing to save anyone and in the panic many simply would have died as a result of trampling. Because this fire would have originated and ended in the Twigs it has no name there is not record of misery for those at the bottom of the ladder such is the state of the world for now.
