Surrogate Proxy

Known otherwise as 'bodypuppeting', though it is markedly less horrifying than that term implies, surrogate proxies are- usually- blank clones constructed around a control device, which allows an individual to puppet this clone body as if it were their own, usually using a device- a chair or a pod most often- to still their original body.  Some Surrogate users utilize more technological bodies than organic.
This technology, of course, became useful for UGF military forces, as a way to minimize personnel losses, but it seems that the UGF had this technology a few years before the rest of galactic society, though the UGF early rendition went by the name of "Ghost Networking", or "GhostNet", and is still in use, purportedly, by the Ghost Agents on Takuvia, and aboard UGF starships.
Rumor has it that there's also specialized combat proxies, or living-steel frames, in use by the Kuraiashi clan, but, a lot of people dismiss this as wild fantasy.
Categories
Civil-Grade Proxy: Usually unarmored, borne of publicly available stocks.  Some specialty shops provide royalty and closed stocks for the paying customers.
Worker-Grade Proxy: Typically machine, built to be robust and wear-resistant, these proxies are usually fairly plaintive, lacking in decor.
MilSpec Proxy: Available only to military personnel, and licensed mercenary corps, much like Worker-Grade, military proxies tend to forego the bells and whistles for raw performance.
Specialty Proxy: Tailor made for specific purposes, this is the most wild and varied category of proxies.

Inventor(s)
The invention of the Surrogate Proxy concept is usually attributed to one Hayden Shéndì, though the first working civilian-grade proxy/control-chair combo came half a century after his passing.
Access & Availability
Surrogate proxy technology is a civilian tech, but due to its general cost and space requirements- control chair, stasis storage pods, etc- it's not something just anyone can feasibly possess.

This technology has multiple parents, only the first is displayed below.
