Khaa'ther Species in Aquila Palaxis | World Anvil

Khaa'ther

Hailing from the planet Para (originally known as ON2110), researchers in orbit noted, early on, a peculiarity about the species; namely, the bulk of the pureblood species is strictly male. Though speculative, at first, this was soon confirmed, when in-person contact was made, and gene samples were gathered, showing that the females among the tribes had 'contamination', which later was proven to match other indigenous lifeforms, in their sequences. Some of the males, as well, bore this oddity, and notably, the 'contaminated' of their number were shorter, on average, with fewer eyes, and less general biomass.
Purebloods, as they have since been nicknamed, are tall, strictly male, and sport a number of eyes, in addition to the standard binocular pair common to humanoid species, and house a large amount of biomass in the upper portion of their tails, with an opening on the underside containing two major rows of calcified material, roughly appearing like teeth, just behind a 'lip'. In observation, the central eye on the forehead has been seen bleeding, on occasion.
The "Lesser"- though in truth 'greater' would be more fitting, given their numbers, in comparison to Purebloods- khaa'ther are slightly more varied in appearance, usually taking on physical attributes of their mother species, in addition to distinctly khaa'ther traits.

Physical Description

Anatomy
Core Khaa'ther look largely similar to Cagher , only with larger ears, black sclera, bioluminescent irises, and horns sprouting from their skulls. The 'lesser' Khaa'ther tend to be felinoid, but due to their genetic heritage, tend to take on physical characteristics of various other species.
Genetics and Reproduction
Having no females among the species' core numbers, the Khaa'ther have adapted a versatile, incredibly compatible spermatozoa, capable of fertilizing the eggs of creatures highly unrelated to them on the evolutionary chain. In essence, this puts them in the category of a 'parasitic'- in strictly scientific terms- male species.
Purebloods are, of course, fairly finite, and dwindling bit by bit. Their genetics, however, do occasionally produce offspring with unusual developments, such as ones that produce proper, if gelatinous eggs- not merely ovum- internally. These 'egg-layers' are usually females, and are described as a "princess" by her people. Rarely, one of the eggs she produces will contain a mutagen, and the Purebloods can smell it immediately, allowing them to retrieve it before harm comes to the egg. This egg, in the end, is absolutely important in the creation of new Purebloods, and in a ceremony known as a Blooding, headed by the Purebloods of the tribe, a chosen member of the tribe- referred to hereafter as the Host- is instructed to 'consume' the egg, and are watched over by the de facto elders, as they change, altered by the egg's mutagen. Over the course of about a day, the Lesser khaa'ther rises, thrumming with power and purpose, into a brand new Pureblood.
A princess' eggs are gelatinous, and resistant to most environments, but will simply dissolve away in certain conditions.

Home World

Para has long served as the homeworld for the khaa'ther, with its lush jungles, and unusually shaped landscapes harboring the many tribes, and even concealing a number of ancient, nearly forgotten ruins of a once great civilization.

Society and Alignment

Relations

Having had a long history of admiring their own physiques, their introduction to a galaxy of similarly built creatures has them becoming quickly infatuated with the physiques of other humanoids. Some take this a step further, by trying their charm to win the affection and companionship of others. Others find their entire demeanor, and intense lascivious appetites a bit too intense. The Cagher, meanwhile, seem to have forged a bond of kinship with this horned felinoid species.
