Derala Keldral
Chaos is all I've known. Munazra. Once a prosperous colonized world with limitless potential, turned sour one day. I suppose the bandit numbers reached a critical mass, or something, but they spilled out from their hideouts and ransacked city after city. My mother and I were on our way off-world, hoping to avoid the carnage, but, these things never go according to plan. The Bone Lords and their new allies, the Binary Hunters, raided the starport as my mother was boarding the craft. In the chaos, I got knocked from her arms. I heard later that the crowd rushing ahead prevented her from turning around and fighting to get me back. I don't blame her, even now. My savior, though, was an aging woman who pummeled the war machines and blindsided the bandits on the scene. Not even a sawblade in her leg would hinder her, it seemed.
Some point, I passed out, and when I awoke again, Giloso, my savior, was across the room, legless and bandaged up. She really earned her nickname, 'Lucky', that day. Lucky to have not lost too much blood, and lucky to have been there at the right time. Or wrong time, depending on your perspective. I was indebted, either way.
Years passed, mother never found her way back for me. In fact, ships in general have almost entirely stopped arriving. Probably afraid of the bandit threat. Without a means of finding her, I hunkered down and grew into my role as a helping hand. I made my home in the remnants of a library, and lull myself to sleep with the various books.
Nothing has been sunshine and rainbows, but, one afternoon, as I was out helping with the defenses of the city, I... I guess I was strung up on some paranoia, or something, but, I heard something approaching from the wilds, and jumped preemptively into action. Claws rent flesh, and only as I was being pulled back did I realize my mistake. In a fit of blind, overprotective zeal, I killed one of those who I had resolved to help. A citizen, not a bandit. Frankly, it's a miracle I wasn't exiled, but Giloso seemed to understand. She scorned me for the act, of course. I deserved that much.
In my depression following that act, I started drawing up schematics for something. A mechanoid, which I named MNDGT. In the process of making this, I discovered energies I hadn't noticed under my fingertips before. Surrounding, interweaving. Magic. Through a combination of pulling its threads into the weave of MNDGT and studying its flows, I grew to understand the workings of magic. And then, among the scrap, I found a tablet. Looked like a comm device, but, its contents further helped me understand magic.
As the crowning achievement of my fundamental understandings, a small polymer ring etched with arcane runes now adorns one of my horns, through which I can channel the energies around me. I am Derala Keldral, with magic and technology combined, I will take the fight eventually to the bandits, as a means of atoning for what I've done.

Fringer in One, Datalyst in the Other
Derala's fate, it seems, diverted vastly between Palaxis and Lapotis, as in Palaxis, she is stranded in the fringe, scraping to get by. In Lapotis, on the other hand, she got off-world with her mother, and migrated to Dakiupra, where her bibliophilic ways got her a job with TanoSys, as a data analyst.Statblock
