Chakat Species in Aquila Palaxis | World Anvil

Chakat

Being a species without any natural, evolutionary origins, chakats sit among other GELF(Gene-Engineered Life Form)s in Aquila Palaxis. Created by one Bernard Doove, a name that miraculously survived the Blackout so many centuries ago, the creatures sat on the drawing board in the meantime, until the technology finally matched the ambitions, combining some research from the Batavian Cagher, and using the human genome as a baseline, the creation process was long, and arduous, made worse when some tried to shut the project down through violence and riots.
The first viable chakat stepped out of the artificial womb, cheery and upbeat despite the project's many setbacks. A variety of creatures from across the galaxy, purportedly including Imperatrix Raneda, watched, and cheered the felitaur on.
Nowadays, there aren't many chakats being pushed out of the artificial growth chambers, as the species was designed to be self-perpetuating, though some companies have put together approved transformatives that could turn someone into a 'kat.
The concept of a tauroid creature was nothing new, combining elements of an anthropoid with those of a quadrupedal beast, but the chakat has most of them beat in regards to their forepaws, as those- which they often refer to as 'handpaw's- are nearly handlike in their dexterity, and their dewclaw acts more like a thumb than those of conventional felines.
