The Red Wisp Inn

The Red Wisp Inn is a strange, seemingly abandoned Inn, located on Lucidity, near Coldashton. It was once owned by Samuel Dres.   The Red Wisp Inn has a tragic history. Originally started by Samuel Dres, and his wife, Darla Dres, the Red Wisp Inn was created as a counterpoint to the more expensive and elitist establishments of Coldashton, such as The Blue Barrow. The Tavern became popular amongst the poor of the town, much to the dismay of the Blue Barrow's owner, who demanded that the Inn be left outside of the confines of the town when its walls were erected. Despite this obstacle, the Inn remained popular, and supplied enough money to the Dres family that they were able to support two children; Clayton Dres and Sally Dres.   All was well until Clayton became a man, and murdered two people on his eighteenth birthday. He was defended by his father, and took asylum in one of the Inn's rooms. However, Darla had also gone missing, and Samuel had began to suspect his son. While Darla had actually been murdered by Brother Tendon, and her flesh used by the Adherents of the Meat God to ascend Helen Tamine to a Gibbering Mouther, Samuel could not shake himself of his son's supposed guilt.   Samuel came into possession of a cursed tome, The Book of the Grief Eater, that would allow him to exchange a living soul to return a dead one to Apa Axas. Seeing the exchange of his murderous son for his beloved wife as a fair trade, Samuel conducted the ritual, which involve setting Clayton alight in his sleep. However, Clayton resisted the ritual, and instead killed Samuel, as well as Sally (who was asleep in the next room), and a patron of the inn, the Civil Orc Bard, Scranz. Also killed in the blaze was Yara Branchbush, a travelling adventurer who attempted to aid the family inside.   While the family died, Clayton was returned as a powerful Ghost, and warped the Inn to his liking, using it as a trap to lure in unsuspecting souls that he could then use as a conduit to gain more power. This eventually led to Marrisa Delain, Weave of The House of Sinew to investigate. Marrisa was able to determine the nature of Clayton and succeeded in weakening the undead murderer, but her memories were lost in the process, leaving her trapped in the Inn alongside the other victims. It was only when a group of adventurers stumbled across the Inn that the victims were released, and Clayton was finally banished.
