Nansuelo
Nansuelo (meaning "The King's Mountain" in Aracian) is the political seat of power in Aracia and home to the Sovereign Prince Rodrigo Salemanco. A sprawling city built along the intersection of the Salemanco River and Lake Cratores, it is split into two distinct halves - the Crescent District, which rests along the rolling hills south of the Estrevalla Mountain Range, and the Peak District, a series of fourteen stacked levels that rest in the huge crevice that runs down the center of Mount Bartolome. Cazanthal, the ancestral home of the royal family, sits at the top of the mountain, holding watch over all of Aracia.
The Crescent District
Wide and spacious, the Crescent District often feels more like the rural plains of the Tribada Steppe until one gets closer to Mount Bartolome. Surrounded by a miles long, fifty foot wall on each side, it is inaccessible except through one of the three gates along the Whiteiron Road or through the gated harbors along the river and the lake. Huge patrols of Aracian soldiers are posted along the wall to prevent incursion.
Nansuelo is entirely self-sufficient and designed to house thousands of additional civilians from outside the city in the case of external conflict. The wall around it was built during the Infernal Wars as worries sprouted that Mephistia was pushing further to the west and could wipe out the Aracian cities beyond Lake Cratores. It is a fortress as much as it is a city.
As such, the first ring inside the wall is made up largely of scattered military bases and camps. For roughly five miles past the camps, the landscape is sparse and made up of high yield farms, ranches and vineyards. It is said that for every person who lives in Nansuelo, there are at least four bison - though the veracity of this claim is shaky at best.
Once in town proper, the city takes on a more metropolitan feel. Nansuelo has a thriving middle class because of the policies of the local democratic government - even the farmers, sailors and miners can afford a decent life for their families. It is this system of fair governance that Rodrigo hopes to export to all of Aracia, though it has met with mixed success in other cities and provinces.
The Crescent District has thriving docks, a huge central market, and a small, but popular nightlife neighborhood.
The Peak District
Built within a massive crevice along the side of Mount Bartolome, The Peak District can be seen for miles around, like a tower staring out across all of Aracia. It is the seat of power for the nation, where the most influential members of society congregate. Rodrigo views it as an archaic and unhelpful symbol of the divide between the wealthy and the poor in his nation, but he often plays along with the reverence for the structure to maintain a semblance of control over those who would push back against him.
Broken into fourteen distinct levels, each separated by massive stone slabs, the Peak District is accessible by any citizen of Nansuelo, though many of the buildings within are reserved for government and institutional business. Long, winding staircases allow for access between levels, but the most popular forms of transportation are the Elemental Lifts that harness the power of the Plane of Air to thrust platforms up and down. Different sized Lifts allow for cargo to make it to the upper echelons of the Peak and some Lifts will only provide access to those with authorization - such as Cazanthal and Fortress Pavillo. Some visitors also choose to use flying carpet taxis between levels for faster service.
